Well, my cousin just popped in for a visit, and completely out of the blue she hands me 3 araucana (blue) chicken eggs.. she took her kids to a farm today and picked them up for £1... she doesn't have any sort of incubator, but knows I've just hatched ducks.. so.. might as well give it a go. I'm...
Well, I have 4 aylesbury ducklings, now 2 and a half weeks old, and was wondering when they can have permanent access to water to paddle in?
They have daily supervised swims, and they don't need a heat lamp anymore. Thanks a lot!
2 days old
2 weeks old
It's gone so fast, and they've gotten so big! The pictures aren't great, there's always one that won't stay still for the camera..
Also, one of them was sort of quacking today... more of a half quack lol
These were taken just after bath time. They're practically all grown up :')...
1 week old already! They're so darn cute, and playful and sooooo messy..
The pictures aren't great - they're not the most corporative when it comes to keeping them still, lol.
Well I had 5 aylesbury duck eggs, 4 have hatched and are doing great.
The last egg i though had quit, due to the ducklings kicking it about, knocking it against the side of the bator, smothering it in weetabix (temporary until i got duck food) and one even pooped on it... then about 48-ish...
4/5 of my ducks have hatched, the most recent being earlier on today.. but what can I feed them? I ordered some duck starter feed last week, but the seller emailed 2 days ago to say that they had trouble with the stock, and couldn't supply the order.. so I've ordered some from another site, but...
An hour ago it hadn't even zipped half way around, I go and look in and
Is this anything to worry about? It was left over in the egg, unattached to the duckling.. I'm hoping it's just gooey sticky poop..?
Let the wait begin! Can hear tapping on the shell on one or maybe two. I saw on here about putting them in cupcake cases to stop them from moving around, and to help with the mess, so I've done that. Fingers crossed!
I couldn't resist giving my ducks one last candle, and two of them look like they're trying to push their beaks into the air cells. Lockdown is in approximately 23 hours (not that i'm counting *hem*), so should I leave them til then, or lock down early... The other 3 I have in there don't seem...
I'm locking down my duck eggs tomorrow and was wondering what humidity I should aim for? I've seen so many different preferences for what it should, I'm at a loss for what to go with. I've had it at a steady 50% for the hatch so far. Thanks!
Was lying in bed, and could hear the bator fan, so everything seemed normal, but when i looked over at it the light wasn't on.. and with my brilliant luck, the bulb had blown! Luckily we've got some spares, but they were without a proper heat source all the same... though it was for an hour at...
So I just turned my 5 duck eggs (I haven't got a turner in my bator) and when I was watching them through the bator window, all 5 of them were ocassionally wobbling/shaking I didn't think I'd see this until at least lockdown, which isn't until saturday! I candled them for a final time last...
So, at the moment I have an 'anti-slip' mat that came with my incubator, but it isn't the best - the eggs don't grip on it very well and after i turn them they sometimes roll across it...
I'm thinking this isn't the best thing as I can see them all rolling around crazily when it comes to hatch...
I've been reading a lot of stories about chicks and ducks hatching with their intestines etc outside of their body... and was wondering whether this is really common... I've hatched chicks before and its never happened to me. Sorry if this is a stupid question Its just a really scary thought. I...
This was my first hatch in summer 2009.
Homemade incubator, hatched 5/6 mixed chick eggs from ebay.
Thought i'd post the pics now, despite them being kinda old..
The first to arrive.
Note the giant cardboard box in the background that made a very cheap yet good brooder...
I've got some eggs in my incubator and was wondering how soon after they hatch can they go outside/swim without risk of drowning? I live in the UK so its pretty cold here at the moment. Thanks!
My aylesbury ducks are due to hatch in a little under 2 weeks, and I was wondering how long it is before they can go outside and swim unaided?
I'm in the UK so its pretty cold at the moment. Thanks!
