This may be a silly question, but is there any reason chicks can't have apple cider vinegar? I usually get fully feathered chicks, but this spring I got 3 day old babies. I just want to be sure I don't give them anything they can't handle :)

I have a hen who has what looks like a hemorrhoid right next to her vent. It's swollen and bloody. Maybe it's an infected follicle? Can anyone point me in the right direction by telling me what this *might* be? Thanks so much.

Hello, everyone.
About 2 weeks ago, we adopted 2 approximately 1 yr. old hens. Our flock has adjusted to them pretty well, although they do continue to peck the head of one in particular. She isn't totally featherless on her head, but she may get a bald spot soon. We've also been wondering if...
In August, we lost one of our hens. She was the smallest of our birds, and was often pecked by the remaining 4 in our flock. Suddenly, she became lethargic and pale; she died within a few days.
We figured there was something wrong with this hen from the beginning, and we weren't worried about...
My hubby was asking me today: When do we need to clean the run? Good question! Do we need to clean it at all? How do we clean it? How do we know when it needs cleaning?
Thanks,
Kristina
I live in the Pacific Northwest, where slugs and snails are something every gardener battles. In the past, I've used a combination of hand picking and Cory's snail bait. This year, because I now have chickens, I only used hand picking. But my garden is suffering heavily and a few plants probably...
Hi everyone,
My hens just started laying and I've had a few eggs break. My hens like to pull all the straw out of their nesting boxes, so I lined them with that rubbery, no-slide shelf paper stuff. They promptly pulled that out and dumped it in the coop. Any ideas for nesting box liners that my...
I figured my hens would start laying this fall, but today we discovered our first egg! My father, who used to raise chickens, once told me you could tell which hens were laying by looking at the color of their...earlobes, I think. I can't remember if they were supposed to be darker or lighter...
I have poulets; when they were chicks, I gave them sand. Now they are outside in a run. I give them weeds and table scraps frequently, but I've never bought grit for them. Should I be concerned? Or will they get what they need from the soil in their run, even though I don't detect pebbles there...
A few weeks back, I posted about some 4 week old chicks I bought with what I'd call severe pecking damage. I ended up separating them (2 in one brooder, 3 in another), giving them scratch and boiled eggs, and giving them a red light. The pecking stopped and the chicks healed.
Well, last night I...
Today I went to my local feed store and bought some 4 week old chicks. The owner got the chicks from a back room and boxed them up for me. It didn't occur to me to look at them before I took them home. When I got them home, all but one had feather loss on her back. At first I thought this could...
I'm thinking of putting our new hen house in an area where my husband has, in the past, done a lot of wood chipping. The chips are fairly deep - perhaps a foot, possibly two in some spots. No toxic cedar or pine was chipped there. But I'm wondering if this is safe and whether it would be better...
I've been reading up on raising chickens for some time (and remembering how we cared for them when I was a kid), but we're really stuck on the coop. Neither my husband nor I are carpenters. At all. But ready made coops or kits are sooooo expensive. Can anyone offer advice on where to find EASY...
