Where can you go to get a couple of chickens slaughtered/processed... whatever you call it, in Grand Rapids, MI??? I can't find anyone, and I even spoke to a butcher here and a turkey butchering company here and they have no resources to share/recommend. Thanks so much!!
My Isa Brown 'hen' is crowing... a LOT. How can I tell if she is really a he, as this behavior is not very useful in keeping our clandestine chickens, well, clandestine. The males were white, and we traded them for hens, so I thought we were all set. Then four of the five brown 'hens' got bigger...
I purchased ten 'ISA Brown' chicks. Two were white as they began to mature, and I no longer have them, as I cannot have roosters. I still have six brown ones - supposedly the 'hens', and they are about 6 months old now. This morning one of the larger ones began making 'crowing'-type sounds...
Our coop is in place! Yea!!! The fencing is still temporary (needing final stability/some framing and posts), but the coop is up and the peeps and hens are in it... pretty much. They are learning to transition. First night appears the peeps slept huddled in a nesting box and the hens at the foot...
