Something got into my pen and killed my quail. The chukar are fine. The quails' heads were chewed off. Would rats do this? It has to have been something small. I thought maybe a mink or weasel would be possible, too, but it seems like they would've done more damage? Not sure, though. I...
I have a hen who lays a variety of colors. She's the only hen in the pen, so I know it's just her. Can anyone explain how/why this happens? I know the color saturation can depend on how long the egg was held internally, but these egg colors are all over the place. I'll post photos from my...
I'm going to try hatching my chukar and valley quail eggs together. I think that will be doable. I'm wondering, though, if I will be able to brood them together. Will the chukar be too big to leave with the quail? I have a pair of chukar and a pair of quail in the same pen and they get along...
Local pickup only in the Olympia area.
I will have Ancona ducklings and hatching eggs available later this spring. Most of my flock comes from Worth It Farms.
Ancona Ducklings: $15 each
Ancona Hatching eggs: $40/dozen or $25/half dozen
Right now, I also have "barnyard mix" duck hatching...
We have a black headed caique who's about 13 months old. She is hilarious, a little tyrant, and we love her to death.
We were thinking about getting another caique for company for her during the day while we're gone (and for the entertainment of watching them play). When we got her, we were...
I thought I'd post this here, because I had a hard time finding the info about deworming waterfowl myself. I emailed one of the waterfowl farms where I've purchased some of my birds.
My email:
I have questions about deworming waterfowl and I seem to get a lot of mixed information when I...
I've noticed that one of my geese has had diarrhea for a little while, but couldn't figure out which one it was and none of them acted sick. Then, a couple weeks ago a few were standing around me waiting for dinner and I heard a weird gurgling sound. It sounded almost like a person's stomach...
Ancona hatching eggs $24/dozen
I should have some more ducklings available in a few weeks.
Most of my Ancona ducks came from Worth It Farms. The majority of the ducklings I hatch are blue, but other colors are possible.
Local pick up in Olympia, WA.
Ancona duck hatching eggs
I have a blue drake and a silver drake over blue, black, and tri-color hens. About 25% are green eggs. Most of my ducks came from Worth It Farms. The majority of the ducklings that I've hatched have been blue, but you could get a variety of colors.
$3.00 per egg...
Ancona hatching eggs $3.00 each + shipping
I will include any extra eggs I have available on shipping day.
I keep my ducks on green grass 24/7 and they are fed Mazuri waterfowl. Potential for all colors.
I had 100% fertility in the eggs I tested this year. However, as we all know...
Serama chicks hatched on New Year's Day and a few more on Jan 5th. I incubated these eggs to test fertility and wasn't sure what to expect with this new pairing. I was surprised with 100% fertility, so I hatched more than I really wanted. I will sell some of them.
Local pickup only.
Hatched in March 2012 from blue-green and cream colored eggs.
Two of the girls are laying (one lays cream colored eggs, the other lays green eggs).
I have one pair left.
You can read more info about this breed of duck on The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy website...
I have two bird cages for sale. Both cages are the same size, but one has two large doors on the front, the other has one. Both come with a metal stand with a shelf on wheels. Both are powder coated and a light color. Pullout grate and tray at the bottom for easy cleaning. I no longer have the...
Are adult geese big enough that hawks and bald eagles won't bother them? I'm more worried about the bald eagles than the hawks and other raptors around here.
Any first hand experience or ideas for using temporary or portable fencing? I'm looking to set something up for ducks and geese that I can move around the pasture. It needs to be able to keep birds in and dogs/predators out. I'm mostly worried about eagles, hawks, and dogs.
I have a natural pond on my property that covers about an acre. I thought it would be fun to get a pair of swans to add to my ducks. Holy cow! They're so expensive! Why??? Are they hard to breed?
Does anyone know of somewhere to get them for less than thousands of dollars?
Does anyone have any breeder recommendations? I've gone to birdbreeders.com, but I really don't want to buy a bird from some random person off the internet.
I live in the Olympia, WA area. I need a couple more females ducklings. I can place a small quantity order with Metzer Farms, but it's expensive to do it that way.
I'm looking for other people in this area that also only want a small quantity of ducklings (8 or fewer). Anyone interested?
