My leghorn girl is aick and I haven't a clue to what's wrong. She's been like this for a few weeks. We have no vets in the area that handle xhickens so I can't take her anywhere. I've been reading and searching but have found nothing. I've posted a picture. She is eating and drinking. She still...
Had the strangest thing happen. Night before last when putting the hens to bed, one of the girls was "sneezing" a wee bit. It was late and myself not feeling well from a cold, locked them in tight for the night. Yesterday when I got home from work, I let the girls out of their run and sneezy...
I have a sick hen. Shy of 3 years old. She's been sick for about a week now. I really thought she'd be dead by now. She's staying underneath the coop but must be coming out to eat & drink. When I first noticed she was ill, her comb had flopped to the side and is pale in color. No known trauma...
Ame home from work today and my leghorn pullet seems veru sick. White pastey rear, hef comb is completely drooped over, she won't leave the coop. Whe I picked her up to check her out, a watery discharge poured out of her mouth. Please help! She's just shy of 2 years old.
My hens have bare butts. No feathers. Feather shafts only on some, bare skin on others. Two of them have "peed" on me during inspection of said butts. Very watery..just like pee. All acting normal.
Could it be a molt? They are 21 months old and have never molted, that I know of. Could it be...
I know I've seen this topic somewhere but cannot find it. I caught my hens eating egg in the grass with no signs of shell anywhere. I have 10 hens and have been collecting 9 eggs regularly for a few weeks. Could this be the beginning of #10? Should I be worried about where the shell could be?
My girls are about a month away from laying age (20 weeks I'm told). The days are getting shorter here in Northern Wisconsin. I keep a red heat light on at night in the coop and want to put a white light in there on a timer to extend their day light for laying. When would be the optimal time...
When can you tell if you have a rooster in your mix? I have 10 - 16 week old chickens. No crowing from anyone at this point and they all look very similar amongst their breeds.
I currently use pine shavings on the floor of our chicken palace. Would straw be better for the winter? Our winters are very cold. Also we were going to shut it up tight but after reading some comments I'm thinkin maybe we should leave a little open for ventilation. Thoughts? Comments...
