I just opened up my nesting boxes so the chicks (15 weeks old) can take a look. I put some straw in there but it seems sorting rough and pokey. Does everyone use straw?? I want them to be happy little egg layers!
My poulets are 11 weeks old. I have some questions and will probably add to these as I go along in my adventure.
• I see my chickens eating some of the smaller feathers that they lose once in awhile. Will that hurt them?
• When can I expect this first molt?
• Can they eat regular clover...
My five chicks are five weeks old today and just went out into the run for the first time yesterday.
This is my only silver laced wyandotte and her/his crown is a little pinker than the rest that are just nude or yellow. My other chicks are buff orpingtons and easter eggers.
Here's the best...
My coop opens up into an old dog run which is cement. It's about 10 x 10 and I have 5 little 4 week old chicks that I will be moving to the coop in a couple weeks. My question is: What should I put on the cement base? It will be out on the weather unless I cover part of it with a tarp...
She is just sitting with eyes half closed, this happened all of a sudden. Crop feels mushy. she isn't eating or drinking that I have seen> What can I do??
This has been since late yesterday afternoon. Poop is runny. Please help, This is my first batch of chicks (6) I'd hate to lose one!!!!!
My little barred rock just started to be a little lethargic yesterday afternoon. She's drinking but I haven't seen her eat. She is just sitting on a little roost I have in the brooder with the 5 other (very active) chicks. She's not acting like the others this morning at all. What should I...
I ordered 2 Buff orpingtons, 2 easter eggers, 1 barred plymouth rock, and 1 silver laced wyandotte. But I got 3 yellow chicks?? The one is a lighter yellow with puffy cheeks??? Can anyone please tell me what's what! : ))
I'm not sure how to add multiple pics.
My coop is being built inside my garage and will open out into a chain-link dog run that is cement. What footing would be best to put on top the cement?? I will also want to somehow extent the run out onto some of that dirt and grass area. Probably not with chain-link but with something...
I'm still in the planning stage. My coop will be built inside a dog run that will be made secure. It's on a concrete slab. I was wondering if I could stertch deer netting using t-posts out onto dirt and grassy areas to give them more freedom> That way it could be moved around a little. I'd...
I'm still researching before building my coop and getting chickens. I live on one sq acre partially taken up with the house.. However I'm surrounded by a golf course which is open areas. The only cover is on my property. What's the chance of a few chickens staying on my property and not...
I get my lawn maintained with fertilizer and at times weed killer. Is this safe for chickens?? I will have a permanent pen but would like to also have a lightweight tractor to move them around.
I don't have my chickens yet but I would like to have chickens (3-4) able to free roam just for a couple hours when I'm around. How do you get them back in the coop/pen and will they run away?
I'm brand new and don't have my chicks yet. I have to build a coop first. I have this unused dog pen beside my garage, I figure I can use this space to build the coop inside the pen or maybe even in the garage opening to here. Is this plausible? Here is the dog pen.
