WHAT IS THE MAJOR MALFUNCTION HERE, GUYS??? Are you all un-aware that we are all AGAINST GMOs? There just isn't anything to argue about! Shake hands and move on, O.K.?

So, again, what we're discussing is the difference between the letter of the law, and the spirit of the law. I swear, I didn't know hairs could be split so thin!!! But, all in all, I believe we all agree that we want a safe food supply, and most agree that organic is good and GMO is only...

Yeah, we didn't get ahold of it, we made it ourselves! After the tests, our #1 suspect is not the hay we've been feeding the sheep, and thus their manure. Testing showed sheep manure had no effect on the sprouts, other than positive. Our new suspect is actually the straw we've been using for...

I had to look that one up! It sounds....um....interesting. I had a hard time understanding what the real advantage would be, though. I already use raised beds, so fill them with logs and branches that take forever to break down? Perhaps you understand it better than I, the websites I looked...

Splitting hairs here. What I was referring to wasn't labeling laws, but rather how any seed can be grown organically, even GMO seeds. I don't know why anyone would, it's just that, technically, it's possible. Oh, and thanks for the "theft of intellectual property", all I could think of was...

Let's try to clear up some confusion here. HEIRLOOM = OLD FASHIONED VARIETY, been around for many years, like, "my Granny grew this one!" ORGANIC = GROWN WITHOUT CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS, CHEMICAL PESTICIDES, OR CHEMICAL WEED KILLERS. Manure, kelp meal, BT, ladybugs, mulch, are O.K. It is NOT...

WHOA! I'm sorry, but you have got a serious disconnect in your information stream!!! Case in point; As of 2005, 87% of the Canola grown in the U.S. was modified to be glyphosphate (Roundup) resistant. That's the Canola oil you use. By 2010, the University of N. Dakota found that 80% of the...

Just to expound a bit on Dennis' great info, most heirlooms are stabilied hybrids as well. This is how corn has been developed from tiny, grass-like plants into what we know today. All tomatoes were developed by gardeners crossing different strains, trying to develop the 'perfect tomato'...

How about Silver Fox! Gorgeous babes! Mine always seem to fade as they grow up, do yours? Perhaps it's the 'mile high' ultra violet fading. Silkies, how is the lambs tail doing? Still waiting to hear.

Recovering from a brain bleed-need advice

Everyone has given you such good advice! I myself had a traumatic brain injury over 30 years ago. Some things get better, some things never do. The advice to keep things slow is good. It's very easy to get overwhelmed and 'jangled', especially when tired. Not too many things at once, too...

Well, here's my whine. Saturday, one of my ewes that is supposed to be due early March, showed up at the feeder with some (I believed) definite hollows at her hips. Since a blizzard was due in the middle of the night, I decided to put her in a jug with a heat lamp. You can probably guess...

No, but I know that Arnold Ziffel, from Green Acres, wasn't paid a cent. He was only given room and board! It was said, "He truly did it for the experience!" More bacon anyone?

How totally cool!!! I've seen so many Katahdins, in so many variations of white, brown, cocoa, and red, but I have never seen black! I've seen Katahdin/Dorper crosses that have a lot, but never a pure Katahdin. A pure black Katahdin would be so cool!!!

    Docking a Lamb's "injured" tail.

I would have to agree with Wallaby, although I would consider surgical removal. I'm really concerned that the exposed stump of spinal cord is an avenue for infection, and infection of the spinal cord can be disastrous. Just my opinion. Good luck!

The way I understand it, copper toxicity is a complex beast! 1st answer. The signs are; Lethargy, anemia, wool or hair loss, excessive thirst, sometimes bloody colored urine, stringy wool, washed out color in the wool (maybe). 2nd answer. It's tough to say if they got too much, since...

    Compost in the Sping

If you add plant material to your pile that you have not grown yourself, or ANY type of manure, please read up on Killer Compost. Many articles are around, try Mother Earth News. Persistant herbicides are found in many feeds and making their way through the guts of animals, creating...

    Home Made Soda Pop

I had a teacher in High School that said, "If you want something to drink, ask for a soda, 'cuz if you ask for a 'pop', I'll give ya a 'pop' in the mouth!" He was from Da Bronx.

** MOTOR OPTIONS for DIY Automatic Coop Door ???

Once I saw a plan for one that used a rechargeable electric screwdriver. Sounded O.K., but the plan said they had to replace them fairly often (not so good). So I was thinking, why not an electric drill? Plent of power, reversible, fairly inexpensive. I can't remember why they wanted the...
