    Can they make it?

Thanks! It's the pregnancy brain that is getting to me! I will continue to let them sit in the incubator then and not throw them out.

    Can they make it?

I started incubating 10 eggs on March 26th. The lady I got them from said they had been laid the Wednesday and Thursday before. I counted forward 21 days from when she said they were laid to get a hatch date. I took them out of the turner this past Monday afternoon. They still haven't hatched...

    Texas

TexasChickMom- I am in Big Sandy just north of Tyler. I usually candle the eggs just for my benefit, but we do not have to candle them for the kids. They just enjoy seeing them as eggs and then showing up to school one day and there are baby chicks in the incubator! Last year we got eggs from...

    Texas

Hello everyone! I am looking for someone in the East Texas area that might be willing to donate some fertilized eggs for a school project. I teach 1st grade and we hatch the eggs out at school to teach the life cycle of an egg. After hatching the eggs, they will be brought to my hosue to live...

4 rescue hens 1 month no eggs, any advice please.

We had one that go a really pale comb at one point. We started putting an antibiotic in their water. I think it was called Tetramycin (I'm sure that is not spelled right). We got it from our local farm supply store. That helped our hen get better. Of course the others drank the water as well...

    ~Setting chicken eggs Sept. 7th.~

I haven't candled and probably won't. Mama gets all upset when you disturb her. Maybe this weekend we will be able to catch her off of the nest one morning and be able to at least see if any of them smell!!

Any way this is NOT going to be a roo?

Maybe. Or we got the eggs switched and they are a cross between a BO roo and BA hen. There is a good chance that happened! Either way the brown chicks look like they will be beautiful. They are solid brown.

Any way this is NOT going to be a roo?

We are hoping for one roo. We like to have fertilized eggs for when we need to increase our flock. We just can't have more than one with the amount of hens that we have. Plus the chickens are housed on my in-laws land so we do not want to over-crowd our free housing!

Any way this is NOT going to be a roo?

That brown one does have a significant comb. The other brown chick is in the back of the second picture. It has a much smaller comb. We will only be able to keep one roo with the number of hens we have. How do you go about choosing which one to keep and which to get rid of?

Any way this is NOT going to be a roo?

Quote: Darn! I was told when that one (the brown one) hatched out, I have two of them, that they would both be hens since they were sex-linked. Buff roo and BR hen. Does this mean they are not really sex-linked?

Any way this is NOT going to be a roo?

It's okay. We were actually kinda hoping he was a roo. Our's was killed a few months ago and this one is his offspring. The roo we had was not sociable, but was not aggressive. He just liked to keep to himself and the girls. So hopefully this one will have his good disposition. Now if only the...

Any way this is NOT going to be a roo?

This chick is an approx. 5 week old Buff Orpington. I'm new at this but I'm guessing this comb and wattles points to being a roo since it is so young. Any chance I'm wrong? Here a picture looking up under his chin. Fully body Just for comparison here is one of his hatching mates. Not the...

Do I need light in coop with less daylight

We have a light on a timer for our girls inside our coop. It comes on about 7 PM (so that they come in) and goes off around 9 PM. We keep it on long enough so that when we go out there to close them up we have some light to see where everything is. We've stepped on a few eggs before. The light...
