I have several chickens. 2 of them buff orpingtons born on July 28th. At first I thought she was just puffed up because it's been cold out lately (30-40 degrees) but today I compared her to her sister and I am wondering if something is wrong. She's also acting sleepy/not active.
First photo is...
I wrote that I know 6 weeks is acceptable but I am worried that in 3 weeks (when they are 6 weeks old) it will be too cold for them. I never had any intention of putting them out at 3 weeks. I was asking if those temps will be too cold at 6 weeks.
I have some 3 week old chicks. I know 6 weeks is acceptable to move them outside, however the temperature here in NJ is starting to drop. I am thinking that in 3 more weeks it will be 60s during the day (which is fine) but 40s at night. Is it safe to put them out in the coop (but keep them in...
I know, very poor quality, but that's all I could find in my photos. It's dark out now so I will have to get a better one tomorrow. Does this look yellow?
Oh I didn't know that! I will have to check in the morning. It's dark here on the east coast and the girls went to bed. She sleeps in the far corner and i don't feel like climbing in the coop with a flashlight to check lol. Thank you for the info!
Is this an australorp hen? I got her when she was 12 weeks old. She is 17 weeks old now. The lady didn't know the breed, just that she was part of a meyer hatchery special. She wasn't looking like one until recently. She has 1 white feather under each wing though.
I would say no to civil war room....
I kept my brooder in my walk in closet in the bathroom for 1 week once and everything was covered in a fine dust from the pine.
Unless you want to dust everything multiple times a week I wouldn't do it hahaha
I have two toddlers. I am currently keeping the brooder in the house, I just keep it in the office with the door closed, that way the kids aren't exposed to any dust. Do you have a separate room, bathroom, basement etc?
I just got a shipment from meyer.
It may look like they don't have much on their website available-but check on a Tuesday morning (shipment day). Their available chickens list gets really big right before shipment-probably because of canceled orders, wrong orders etc.
When I initially...
7AM I was ringing the post office doorbell haha!
They are all alive and well. I was feeling really down because a predator got one of my Easter eggers and my wynadotte in a 5 day time frame-but these little girls are cheering me up :)
The blue orpington seemed a little shaken up but seems to...
I'm so sorry about your hen!
I am a stay at home mom and I have the coop right outside the family room window so I can monitor all chicken activity, but somehow I missed this-no alerts or noises or anything. And another one got taken today while I was at the grocery store- so there will be no...
What is the time frame for hawk migration?
I don't know much about them but I guess I have to learn-another one of the flock got taken today.
I am attaching their run in the morning and they won't be free ranging anymore until I can learn more about the hawks and how to protect the chickens.
This looks like tape worm to me. When I foster kittens they usually have tape worm and it looks exactly as this.
The medicine to kill tape worm is different than roundworm, so that could be why the roundworm treatment didn't help. I know you can get tapeworm treatment for cats and dogs on...
