I have Myotonic Dystrophy in my family (lost my sister and grandfather). My mother, 2 nieces, and aunt also have it. I had the test and do not - it'd basically like flipping a coin at conception as to whether you will get it or not. If you want, PM me - I've done alot of research to find out as...
Hard to say about the pregnant part - does she have any udder development? Goats usually don't show until the last 2ish months although my LaMancha has been HUGE for 2 months & isn't due until the end of March. Is she smaller? If she is smaller, maybe a Nigerian Dwarf cross. If larger, maybe an...
Prey model (same reason as watchdogps ). We're feeding a Doberman, 4 Majestic Hounds, and an 8 mo. old Border Collie puppy. Right now I'm spending about $300 a month (just started again 2 mo. ago) but when we have our steers/pigs/goats butchered cost will go down. DH did get a deer however it...
We have 6 dogs & same boat here . I look for markdowns/sales. One local store has 10 lb. bags of leg quarters for 5.90 so I'll stock up on them. Luckily I was able to find a local lady who sells various meats for rawfeeding .There is at least one supplier list on yahoo, too. Maybe ask local...
We have Hope, Ginny, and Ladybug. Hope is a Cuckoo Maran (almost 4 now ) that has (had) seizures. I say had because since I put her & Ginny on organic food, she hasn't had them . She is also stunted, has crooked toes, and been a house chicken from the get-go. She spends the night with Ginny...
Any deep chested breed is more prone to it. Ours tried to vomit but nothing comes up as the stomach twists. Pacing & acting uncomfortable are also signs. They can gas bloat, too - had one that we had to walk just like horses with colic to get her to pass gas. She unfortunately ended up twisting...
I agree - it's not a 'wait & see' issue. We've had sucess with surgery with ours - 'only' lost one. Horrible to see their pain..... Not something I would wish on anyone.
Here's my boy Griffon - afternoon nap . One of our hounds (Elyna) napping, too. Tough life.... He's pretty much a couch potato now as he's a carrier for VonWilldebrands (found out the hard way - had him neutered at about a yr. & the poor guys scrotum swelled up to grapefruit size) & I didn't...
Nubians are great milkers! Mine is bred back so is dried off but easily gave 3 qts a day - I don't push my guys. If the adult male is a buck, you may have to have a vet castrate him as they're too big for a normal size bander.
We use livestock panels for our goat pens - ours are the 5 ft. ones...
Yeah - I don't believe the 'hybrid vigor' either. Another reason we quit breeding is because of the bloat issues in the line we were using - I wouldn't wish that on anybody . Luckily we saved all but one with surgery.
Majestics were originally a cross between Bloodhounds & English Coonhounds that were 'purebred out'. They unfortunately can have the same health issues, too (ie bloat/torsion). We bred them years ago but got sick of peoples stupidity ('my wife won't let me keep dogs in the house & I've had some...
Our 6 mo. BC puppy has been amazing with the chickens . Just a 'leave it' & he's been fine. The birds seem quite comfortable when he's out, too.His only issue is getting 'the look' with my Alpine buck however he leaves my other goats alone - go figure... Not sure how much of a deterrent he's...
Just my opinion but I'd be concerned about the pork meat/bone meal/animal proteins as who know what it may be. Also, ethoxyquin is a cancer-causing preservative. I know they'll eat some funky things normally but personally wouldn't want it in their regular food.
I was feeding organic to all our birds (chickens, turkeys, guineas) but unfortunately the farm I was getting it from was flooded from Lee. The next closest place is about 2 hours away (although my horse trimmer & I may go in on getting a ton at a time) so for now they are back on regular grain...
He's an amazing father Last year, DH wanted to take all 18 away (went over REAL well with them & me....) so we didn't lose any. This year I said forget it - only the 5 (easier said than done though). Can't wait for that...
I knew May (white hen) was sitting & she came out with 12 adorable keets yesterday . Proud pap is a big help - I love to watch the interaction with them. Keeping most for myself but my horse trimmer wants a few, too. So thrilled to have babies again ! Jenn in NY
