My daughter's teacher gave us these 5 chicks about 4 weeks ago and she thought they were Buff Orpingtons, but that seems to be not the case as they are a bit two-tone.
Any eagle eye folks have an idea what breed these gals are?? Thanks.

She got them at the Tractor Supply Store so I doubt...
We currently have 4 adult hens and 5 chicks that are about 7 weeks old. Currently the chicks are being raised on our porch in an enclosure I built. The adult hens are very interested and spend plenty of time observing them on the porch.
When is a good time to add the little ones to the coop...

That's my guess. I'm thinking that while my wife was doing yoga upstairs, one of the hens was laying the first ever egg of our mini egg empire. Sure would be nice to know who.
in answer to the earlier question, we have 5 hens who will lay brown eggs and one who will lay blue/green eggs. Both eggs were brown.
Both eggs were in the same box, which does not surprise me at all.
I suppose it is possible. My wife was not exactly guarding the coop every minute.
The only reason I posted this is because the were the first eggs we have gotten from these chickens whatsoever and it seemed odd to my wife that only one hen was seen in the nesting box.
Could it be possible...
Our 6 month (and a few days) old chickens presented us with 2 eggs today, the first. My wife is convinced that one of the hens (a silver laced Wyandotte) laid them both.
Is that possible? I imagine it is, but figured you folks would know better than me.
Thanks for your expertise in advance.
My 9 1/2 week old chickens are now hanging happily in their small run. They moved in on Saturday of last week and now have gotten the hang of heading in at the right time of day, so I am not worried about that.
At what age would you recommend letting them free range? How much time being in...
Here are more than a few pictures of my new chicken coop. I don't want to bore you with all of the details and I am definitely not looking for sympathy, but the story of my coop is unique.
In April of this year my closest friend in the world was re-diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The same...
I'm going to hang a feeder and waterer and wondered what was the best height for them off the floor. All our hens are full size, not bantams.
Thanks in advance for the answers!
I have been looking at coop designs and like the one featured in the book "Storey's Basic Country Skills" book on page 504. I also found pdf plans on line for it under the title of "6248."
The coop depicted in the plans is 10x12 which is somewhat too big for me and I'm thinking about building...
McGoo,
I like the look of your coop and would love to ask you a few questions about it. I live in the Hudson Valley myself, in Columbia County.
Could you email me if you have a minute? Thanks so much
