What dog is best for guarding chickens?

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions. That has eased my mind and I think I will start checking the rescue web sites for a young dog that I can train myself. At this point, I am not even sure what I will end up with, but will be taking my time and not rushing into anything because once I...

What dog is best for guarding chickens?

I have heard so many conflicting opions of which dog to get to protect my flock of chickens at night I would like others to voice their opinions. I have been told that border collies are the way to go, but others have said steer clear.... I've been told Greay Pyrenese as well, but then someone...

    Oatmeal

I too give my girls oatmeal, almost daily. Dry if it is warm out and cooked if cold out. I will add raisins and keifer (to the cooked oatmeal). I also reuse my egg shells. I grind them up in the coffee grinder and put them back in with their food.

I can't seem to peel my hard boiled eggs - page 8 Solution!

So glad I remembered to do a search on hardboiled eggs. The last two times I've boiled eggs it was a disaster! I will salvage the 5 already boiled with egg salad, but next time I just might try salt, vinegar AND poking them! Thanks y'all!

    Frozen Water!

I set the waterer inside a heated birdbath (with no water in bird bath) and it has worked great. I had the birdbath in storage in the garage and instead of going out and buying a different waterer I thought I would give it a try. It sits in their pen on top of a piece of hard pink foam...

What would have carried off my little dog?

It could also have been a fox. Where I live, we have fox, coyotes, wolves, fisher, badgers, raccoons, etc. and really have to watch our pets. I lost a pommeranian to an eagle 9 years ago and have had an owl swoop down on my two Yorkies at night. I am always with my dogs when we let them out...

Free 5 month old rooster to good home

I have a 5 month old rooster that is free to a good home. He does not like my Yorkie Milo and I must get rid of him. I live in northern Wisconsin and am willing to meet if it is a reasonable distance. Pick up only, I will not ship him. I don't know how to add a picture of Asa to this, but...

Will young rooster outgrow aggressive behavior?

I've been doing that but I don't think it is working. Once they were in bed tonight I peeked in and started petting him. He let me for all of 5 seconds, then started to peck my hand and arm. I expected it so I was wearing a thick jacket and gloves. It makes me sad.

Will young rooster outgrow aggressive behavior?

I have a rooster who is about 4 1/2 - 5 months old. Last week he started doing a funny sideways dance, dragging his wing and puffing up. I honestly thought he was, for lack of a better term, flirting with me. I've read a lot on the subject and believe he is beginning to be agressive. He has...
