Been a "cop" all my adult life and now I'm the cop on patrol for my chickens. My first thought for the name came to me when I was inquiring on how to protect my chickens from snakes and the such. Once a cop, always a cop!
A good friend of mine, Clark bought thiry chic's from Mr. Jesse and is so proud of how defined they are as Fench black copper marans. Their legs are blue and the feathers go all the way to the ground. I plan on buying some of his off spring next spring to go in with my new chicken coop babies...
I think the snake population will be exploding in the South this season. I've seen plenty of snake on the roadway but so far this year my cat has not brought any on the porch or killed any in the yard. I know alot of folks have stated moth balls may not work but several have stated scattering...
That's a good question and what happens if the chic's get into the sulfur? I would put it out away from them but I will eventually train them to go in and out of the coop when I'm home. I know, well I guess they would not eat the moth balls but how about the snake away and sulfur??
True, I am deep in the woods and I don't have a mice problem yet.. I think maybe that's why I was so hesitant on even raising chickens for eggs. My friend has made a lasso out of pvc and cord--she rounds the snakes up and takes them off. I just don't have the strength to save a snake.... I have...
Just starting to "snake proof" coop, I have cooperheads, black snakes, all varietys... That's my concern, I just don't know what the coop will attact. I figured my best bet would be to pre-treat before I put the chics in the coop. Snake away has a mothball odor and a friend states she keeps...
