    Welsh Harlequin Having problems

I just wanted to update everyone that she is doing fine. She still limps, but she's outside with everyone else and doesn't have any problems running away from me when I come to take care of their bedding/water/food.

    My Flock

Just a followup. All but one of these ducks are now outside and seemed to do fine last night. Here's a video of them (it's on facebook so it won't show up if your work blocks facebook)

    Welsh Harlequin Having problems

Well, everybody else in now outside in their new digs. The little one is still inside with me and getting some swimming time everyday. It seems to be helping, she can stand some and she will occasionally put weight on the injured foot. She is still tiny compared to everyone else, and she...

    Welsh Harlequin Having problems

That's the plan for at lease a week. I couldn't get vitamins at a local feed store so I went to pet smart and got bird vitamins. It seems to have everything that something like nutridrench would have. She isn't drinking much, though. Everyone else goes outside today, she will get a place of...

    Welsh Harlequin Having problems

Warning, cute video alert! This is my lame duck. She has a ton of energy in the water but as you can see she only uses one leg. She curls the other one up (which leads me to believe it may not be completely paralyzed) but doesn't use it at all to swim. She seems to be feeling well. Any...

    Welsh Harlequin Having problems

It's getting worse, not better. She can get food and water but she drags herself around if she moves at all. That other leg has just gone completely limp. At what point do I cull her? How can I possible do something like that? How could I let her live like that though?

    Welsh Harlequin Having problems

She's still not walking well, but it standing better and her legs are less turned in. I'll see if I can find a vitamin booster for all of them. I'm assuming it was an injury at this point if she is able to put more weight on it after just 8 hours, but vitamins can't hurt.

    Welsh Harlequin Having problems

She just had a bath. It did help her stand and walk some. I'm guessing it's just really sore. I'm hopeful that it will heal. I also just realized that she is very little compared to the others. I wonder what that is about.

    Welsh Harlequin Having problems

She's the smallest and I'm guessing she got trampled they tend to run from me with gusto. I'm keeping her separate, warm and clean and we'll see what happens.

    Welsh Harlequin Having problems

Just checked, no bumble foot. It seems like she just lost use of her right foot. I can't find anything that feels broken, or that seems sore. When I hold her, there is tone in the left foot and just none in the right. I'm pretty worried.

    Welsh Harlequin Having problems

One of my welsh harlequins is having real trouble walking. I looked for injury but couldn't see anything. Her feet are so turned in that one is standing on the other. None of the others are having any trouble and I've been supplementing niacin. I've separated her from the others so that they...

    How old to go outside

So, I can certainly run power out to their pen. I will need to build a draft-free shelter, and predator proof the run. I'm wondering if there is a better alternative to an infrared bulb. It would be nice to find something that won't cause a fire. Any ideas? There are 8 of them, so I think...

    How old to go outside

It's in the 60's during the day and getting down to freezing or about 5 degrees above at night. They ducks are 4 weeks old today and they are starting to get their feathers in force now. When can they go outside in this weather? Not only are they outgrowing their brooder, but they/ and I...

    My Flock

Man do they love mashed peas. I had to add a little water, and they went nuts for them! I'm going to mash a whole bag of frozen peas and put them in the fridge so I can always have some on hand. I'll try and get some pictures of the frenzy next time i give them peas!

    What's causing sores?

Thanks. They do tend to walk on each-other. They have plenty of room now, but they seem to crowd under the heat lamp. So I moved the heat lamp out of the corner so hopefully they can spread out. When I did check them, they were spread out, except one of the WHs was standing on another WH...

    What's causing sores?

So I came home from work and it looks like there are some sores on my runners. They all have pink (bald) spots on their wings (normal?), and one seems to have a sore on her face. If this is just roughhousing, should I separate them? Is there some sort of deficiency? I'm concerned but everyone...
