I have several white silkie chicks for sale. The chicks are approximately 1 week and 2 weeks old. Parents are approx 9 months old. Chicks hatched under the mama, plus some from my incubator. All healthy! I am also offering their parents for sale. The roo is quite friendly, safe and even...
It seems like the ones I've had to help out have pipped a larger sized hole and are just parked there fore a looooong time. It seems like they are stuck. I've gotten lucky the ones I've helped so far have all been fine.
I had to take some eggs from my silkie hens outside because they had a seriously staggered hatch. Anyway, one hatched right away and I was able to bring him back outside with his moms (lol) but the others are all different stages.
Question: One has internally pipped 36 hours ago...and still...
Yes this is amazing. I got a great pic of the two moms today. Luckily they aren't being peck-y when we put our hands in there which is great because I have small kids. Maybe because they are new moms they haven't gotten fierce yet. These 2 moms are only about 8 months old. But....I need to...
I hope he makes it! You're doing a great job! I just love how one little chick can bring out so much tenderness in us, that is why I am getting addicted to hatching.
My 2 silkie hens (under a year old) hatched out some chicks together, as a team. I put another chick under them which they adopted thanks to the advice on this board. A blue birchen marans that is thriving. Also an older egg hatched in my incubator he went out with them yesterday and was...
I am in NJ and ordered shipped eggs off Ebay from Pennsylvania, thinking the closer the better!
According to the tracking information, they were sent from PA to a processing center in Boulder, COLORADO, and then to Aurora, Colorado, then to New Jersey.
Ugggghhhh....so whats the point I might...
Wouldn't they struggle for longer if they couldn't turn to pip? It seemed like they went from lively to dead in a matter of a couple hours
What actually happened is they were ALL wiggling at the same time on hatch day...and one hatched and all 3 clearly died, pretty quickly.
Is it an...
I'm more confused than ever.
I did eggtopsies...and honestly I cant tell if they drowned or shrink wrapped.
Sigh....I guess I am too much of a newbie for staggered hatches.
My silkies hatched out 2 chicks on Tues night and today-Friday there are 2 more. They aren't giving up so I am leaving the eggs for a while. Its so cute, my 2 hens are completely sharing the nest and the babies. What a treat to watch. Good luck!
I'm going to need to calibrate it. The first hatch went so perfectly, I began to believe my hydrometer. But during this hatch I would put water in, the humidity would jump to 50 ish, I would have to tilt the lid up till it went down to 40, then a day later I would wake up it would be at 10...
Update: I put the lonely chick out with the 2 hens who are "sharing" 4 chicks and a bunch of eggs. 2 of their eggs hatched last night so there is some staggered development but they are not giving up! So I haven't taken any of the eggs out yet.
Yes, everyone, they did accept the chick right...
OK, sounds like a plan! I will try putting him/her with silkie moms and see how it goes. I know they're good moms because they are still sitting on the eggs that didn't hatch out there and they are both being so good at sharing the eggs and chicks. Its very endearing.
Right now lonely chick...
The silkies are 3 days old at the most. I did put in a stuffed animal maybe I will add a mirror. And think more about bringing a silkie chick in. I just feel bad for the mom that raised and hatched them taking her baby. since there are only 2 or 3 babies. If there's only 2 I won't do it...
That would be nice! Currently my 2 mutt red chickens think the silkies are invaders from another land and so I've had to separate them. But in the future I don't want to have to do that.
I just had a bad hatch. One blue birchen marans was born healthy but none of his hatch mates hatched. He is very lonely and stressed when he's alone in the brooder!
So now I'm carrying him around the house with me.
Outside (new jersey) I have 2 Banty Silkie hens "sharing" a nest of eggs...
Thanks for the replies! I am at a loss! My lonely blue birchen marans now goes all around the house with me because he's very stressed being alone. I know its silly but I feel bad for him!
I increased the humidity on day 18 and transferred the eggs to a hatching bator. Same style bator. I...
