After a long thought through decision I am going to get out of the chicken business. I am on a fixed income and it is costing me to much to feed my birds and myself at times. I have several adult Malays to choose from and some juveniles and chicks. I also have some Malay cross chicks to. Asil x...

When my daughters cats follow me out to my Malay pen all may Malays run up to the wire and stare down at them like FOOD! and the cats hunker down and slowly back away from them. It is funny to watch. My Grand sons keep begging me to throw one in the pen. I put out traps to catch rats and I...

I don't know about everybody eles's Malays but mine are like small raptors around small animals. If it is smaller than they are they will attack it, kill it, and eat it. Mine would not be safe around kittens or bunnies or small dogs or cats. To my birds they would be food. My cock killed a 7ft...

Around me is a different story. They are like a dog. When I go in the pen they are right beside me. They like to be petted. I have raised chickens for over 30 years and by far they are my favorite breed to raise.

I have a 3ft plywood divider between the door of my pens so the cocks could not see each other. Well they grew to 30 to 31" tall and they started fighting threw the wire over the 36" plywood so I placed some chicken sacks another 12" more covering the wire to make it 4ft high. I went in there...

Most people say that Malays are gentle giants. Well that is what I thought about mine to until they got up to breeding age and it was like someone flipped a switch. I found out real fast when my males got right around breeding age to separate them. I had to make sure they could not see each...

My tallest one right now is 31" and it is not even a year old yet. My cock bird is 29"tall, 12lbs+. He is a heavy bird. I am guessing at the weight. I don't have a good way of weighing him.

You can normally tell when they are 4 to 5 weeks old. Males will have more black in their wings and start showing it in their breast feathers. Females will be more tan colored in their wings and breast feathers.

I do 3/4 of the pen that way. The south side I leave open except when it gets really cold then I cover it up those cold days then open it back up when it warms up.
