Ok two weeks later. You guys are right the Seabrights all the ones that you said were Roos started crowing. The Wyandotte’s have not and they still look like hens to me. What’s your thoughts now?
First time raising Seabrights and Wyandotte Bantams. Do these 7-week-old chicks look like Pullets or Roos? The seabrights have such diverse combs, and I don't see oversized waddles yet. Also, the Wyandottes were so much bigger in the earlier weeks and i thought they were roos, but now I'm...
I bought 6 chicks from a local hardware store this spring, they were labeled as EE chicks but I have raised EE chickens in the past that had the Ameraucana in the past but these are looking a little different. Instead of the puff cheek feathers my last ones had, these has a tuff on top of the...
After 10 years of not having chickens, we are back at it again. I have 6 EE and 6 Sapphire that we bought from a local hardware store several weeks ago. Im pretty sure the EE are pullets but the Sapphire's I am not sure. Do you see any roos in these pics?

Each of us knows our chickens I'm sure, I have one Adult Roo that is crowing..After hearing his crow for awhile now and sleeping with the windows open, I can assure you that the only roo crowing is the Leghorn. Not to mention during the day when he starts his crowing spill, I go out...
I have also seen a huge production hit the last few months.... I live in Nevada and thought it was the heat, then the cool weather came and still down to 2-4 eggs a day when I have 12-13 hens. I did switch to lay-mash and no scratch and it has helped the last couple of days.

Ya, my thoughts excactly. As you can see I putt them outside the coop on thier own to see what they will do, the bigger red one also is a bully and would eat all of the food and not let the other smaller chickens eat.
I have some chicks that I raised from incubator...One of them I thought was a hen until it started to eat more and grow quicker and bigger. Big feet no spurs and he does not CROW...
I believe these might be roos too...can anyone confirm?
Ok this is my first go around with broody hen. I have a few questions,
1) she is not the top hen on the hen pole and gets kicked off of her eggs so that the other hens who are above her on the pecking order will lay in her nest. She paiently waits and jumps back on when they are done. There are...
Thank you...I cooled her dow last night and this morning she is up and alert but still not right she tried to get up and walk and lost her balance...She wont eat or drink, which worries me...I need to re-think some cooling ideas..it will get above 100 constantly through the summer...
I am new...
I have 15 the others are fine....This one just happen today...she was running around the yard this morning...tody I came home and she was on her side..i thought she was dead...but she is just shaking and breathing fast...wont drink, head lays down...
I think i am dealing with heat prostration on this one........The hen yesterday is an older hen and has not been well for days...this one was all of a sudden..
One of my hens died yesterday...sh had been looking sick..head hanging down, moving slow, fed her yogurt/eggs ...but she died...then found one of my favorites today laying down..labored breathing..raspy type breathing...She was fine this morning....I dont know whats going on...it has been 115...
