I just had the three eggs hatch that I swore were dead! Lol
I've got 6 fuzzy-butts now! :P
They're all so cute.
I know I have 2 Tuxedo chicks, but the others are a question as to what they'll turn into. :)
All the babies are together and the 3 smaller chicks follow their 3 slightly older...
I'm using natural 16% layer feed and add organic fish bonemeal (for added Ca, Ph, and Omegas) and organic feathermeal to boost protein.
For the quail chicks, I use natural chicken chick feed and added feather meal. The feathermeal I get is 80% protein. I use roughly 3.5:1 ratio of chick crumble...
I'm über excited! :D
I just hatched my first 3 Cortunix eggs! The chicks are all healthy and cheeping like mad. Haha
I put in 8 eggs and got 4 to hatch, but one died 1/2 out of the egg. :'(
Anyways, I just had to tell someone that would care to know. Haha
Ok thanks. I've heard of people give feed as high as 35% protein to quail chicks!!
It'll save me a few bucks on feather meal now too!
:P
My layer diet evens out around 25-27% protein. This way I can give them treats like whole sorghum and cracked corn to lower the protein a bit.
I don't put the...
I'm thinking of using Nutrena 18% chick starter and adding Organic Feather meal and a pinch of Organic bonemeal (for minerals.)
I would need to use a ratio of chick feed to feather meal of 3:1 to get a protein content of roughly 33%. Is this enough nutrients for growing quail chicks?
My chicks...
6 of my 11 cortunix quail have developed pink-eye. I've put 2cc. of Tylan in their water container to kill the pink-eye/any other 'bugs' in them.
(Their water container holds roughly 4.5 cups of water.)
How long should I continue adding Tylan to their water and are the eggs laid while on it...
I've had 11 quail for about 3 weeks now. They are around 7 weeks old now. I'm feeding them Nutrena Chick Starter (18%) and I add organic feathermeal and organic bonemeal to boost protein. I've also got some dried mealy worms for treats. :D
I've made the bone&feathermeal & chick starter to come...
You can use high protein cat food, but just like feather, blood, or fish meal, you really don't know what type of 'chicken, turkey, beef, or meat' they use.
It could have been sitting in a wear house for 3 weeks and then put into the food.
Feathers take a long time to decompose, so I got organic...
Congrats on your 1st quail!
I just got 11 juvenile Cortunix 3.8.0 from a local natural farmer.
One of my Manchurian is super tame. She hops into my hand every time I hand feed them and looks at me and chirps for treats. I named her Sweet Pea.
I'll post some pics later today of everybody! :D

I've just ordered some organic feather meal from Amazon.com.
It's 80% protein, easily digestible, and has a complete amino acid range.
Flock Raiser is vegetarian and quail crave animal protein!
I would either add fishmeal, bloodmeal, feathermeal or a combination of them to their feed.
It's very...
I've got 11 Courtix all together (3 Roos, 8 Hens.)
I'm feeding them Faithway 22% SUPER layer & Nutrena All Flock.
Is this ok, they seem to love it. They are just 4&1/2 weeks old now.
I also give them cracked corn, PP All Grain, milo/sorghum, OS, and Wellness CORE grain free cat food 3/week.
They...
I have 11 Courtix Quial I've bought from a breeder.
He makes his own feed and grows his own grains for them.
I'm feeding them 4 parts Faithway "SUPER" 22% Layer, 2 parts Nutrena All Flock, 1/2 part cracked corn, 1 part PP All Grain (barley, oats, cracked corn, & molasses), 1/2 part oyster...
You're doing it just right!
Keep them on meat bird until around 7-8 weeks old and then go to All-Flock.
If you have duck that are future layers then you'll need to provide oyster shell for extra Calcium when they start to lay.
I can't get meat bird where I'm located, so I use grind the all-flock...
My male jumbo Pekin is named Guy, & my mallard hen is Mallie.
Mallards mate for life, so Mallie won't ever leave guy cause he's the only male duck she's ever seen. Perkins breed with anything that remotely looks like a female duck.
Guy could care less about her, but Mallie always follows him...
