my order was supposed to be all pullets but this is looking like a cockrel and I can't figure out the breed. It was a solid black chick now at a month old it's getting brown lacing. Pushy little snot too. I had to isolate him from his same age mates. Straight comb, black legs. Any ideas?
I got a mix color group of orps from Sandhill preservation, white, black, blue and buff. The blues look to be an interesting spread from almost white to dark splash looking. Really looking forward to see how they turn out. The blacks are showing white primaries. is that normal? they are a week...
10 blue orps., 1 buff orp, 3 white orps, 2 black orps, 4 speckled sussex, 6 red susses as freebies since they didn't have enough orp, but that's more than fine by me.
Mixed orpingtion colors, speckled sussex, and they are throwing in some red sussex to cover some shortages. Should be an intersting mix. As usual the hard part is deciding what to keep and what to sell.
Anyone received a chick order yet this year? I know the weather has been absolutely evil to them, but I'd like to at least know if I will ever see my order. We past the latest ship date on my confirmation letter. If they don't think they can fill the order that's fine I understand, but it would...
Has anyone got a chick shipment from them yet this year? I know the weather has slammed them in many nasty ways, but I'm way past the date they gave me and would like to know if I'm ever going to see chicks. Their website says they dont have time to answer emails or phone calls. If they can't...
My husband bought 3 chicks from a bantam bin at a feedstore to keep a lone chick he had company. I pretty much ignored them since I was NOT happy with the amount of hatches he'd done let alone buying more! The other day I heard weird sounds so I looked in the brooder to see if anything was wrong...
My husband bought 3 "Bantam chicks" at a Wilco farm store to keep a lone chick he had company. At this pint we know they aren't chickens and are assuming they are Guineas. Are these standard looking Guinea chicks?
I would separate that poult immediately. If it has something contagious the worst thing you can do is leave it with the rest of the flock. Isolate it in a cage away from everyone else, chickens included. See if you can get it to eat or drink. Is it eating at all? Pooping, runny nose?
After slaughter when you put the cleaned carcass inthe ice bath to cool before bagging and freezing put some salt int he ice water and it will draw most of that out.
LOL! Couldn't agree more. I watched a friend struggling too mix meatloaf up with a spoon the other day. Told her watch this, I washed my hands thoroughly then plunged them in the bowl of ingredients and mixed it all up quick as a wink. Her watching daughters thought it was amazing. my friend...
Use the red heat lamp you have in your chick brooder. Clean it good then suspend it about 2 ft above your work surface. Set your bread bowl and all your dry ingredients under the lamp to warm up while you get it all together. Proof your yeast, get it started in a bowl with milk and sugar, I use...
Everything you're trying to eat. Anything you put on the BBQ and turn your back on. Samll bantam roosters if no one comes to their rescue. The entire loaf of french bread they pulle dout of my car while I was unloading groceries. A live frog. A nest of baby mice. Grapes left over from a party at...
