Never heard that about honey but since she's on shavings I figured that would make another mess. I'll keep up with the Blu Kote. Thanks for the replies.
I was recently gifted a young Black Orpington pullet that's got a pretty bloody rear end. She was a new intro and the previous owners other birds were pretty rough on her. I sprayed some BluKote on her bum and have got her seperated from my birds. Is there anything else that I should be doing...
Thanks George, I kinda had a feeling that I was messing up by doing this at this time of year but I've had some losses from neighboring dogs and I was hoping to play catch up. Should've waited for better weather but what's done is done and I'd like to make the best of it. Besides this is the...
I've never done this before but I just bought some eggs off of Ebay for my broody hen to hatch out.
The seller states..."We advise that the eggs be carefully UN-wrapped then placed in a cool-humid storage area. Ideal storage conditions include a 55 to 68 degrees F. temperature and 75%...
Do you think that my boody Part. Rock will take a few hatchery chicks if I put them with her? She hatched a lone peep around 5 days ago and continues to set on the rest of the eggs but I'm loosing hope that any of them will hatch out. They may not even be fertile 'cause she's been stealing...
To the OP, I haven't read this entire thread but I'll give you my input. Apologies if I'm echoing whats already been posted. Get what you need now and forget about one rifle for trapped critters / deer / pigs / turkey...Much to wide a span. Chicken math is child's play when compared to gun...
Not trying to be a smartazz, but I've been doing a lot of reading on DE and everything that I've read says that it does control intestinal parasites. What makes you say that it doesn't?
Anyone using pellets? I'm very interested but don't even know if I can get them in my area or what they cost. http://www.eaglevalleyabm.com/index.html . Not pimping, just found them on the net and from they're claims, seems to be a good deal.
To a dog that's called recycling
Gives me an idea though...If DE is passed through a chickens digestive system intact, and then the dog eats the package, there wouldn't be any need to worm the dog for intestinal parasites then would there? Win Win!
This is my first go around with chickens, but last night I placed an order with Meyer Hatchery. I chose them because they'll do small orders and they're only one state away (Ohio) so the truck ride should be pretty short for the chicks. April can't get here soon enough!
Good news! Thanks for the info folks. Now I've got to get the coop and run planned out and built. We've got a lot of coons around here so security will be top priority. Looking at having 6 to 8 layers.
New guy here...great site. I leave for work around 4:30 am and was wondering if checking in on the chicken's food and water that early in the morning would cause stress or other problems. Tried the search function and didn't find anything.
I'm in the "thinking about it" stage so no birds...
