strage anomaly inside egg (see pic)

Of course! An additional egg membrane! Thanks you guys are making me feel so much better. I was worried ti was some freaky parasite, though it seemed to large for that. I know an egg yolk and shell can form around just about anything that get's in the oviduct, didn't think of an extra...

strage anomaly inside egg (see pic)

My daughter broke this egg on the floor and the strangest (grossest) thing was inside. Please help, I have searched many site, forums, and books and cannot find a pic like this. Do any of you hen keepers know what this is?

Great story. Incredible! Especially since he is a rooster.

medicated vs non medicated starter feed

Great point! Perhaps I should have been more specific. Amprolium is a more targeted "anti-bacterial." However, some chick starter feed is medicated with Bacitracin. This is a more broad spectrum anti-biotic worth avoiding. I agree I would not want people who have a lot of chicks or cannot...

    Sour Crop CURED with Monistat

I have been battling sour crop for 2 weeks with my 6 month old brahma hen. I did and progression of water with ACV to Yogurt to feed mashed with yogurt. It keeps coming back. I treated with monistat as described in this thread. her crop now is not as full, but does not clear over night and...

Day 2 of a 6 month old with sour crop - is "vomiting" her the only cure?

Also, I should mention, she is eating pretty well and behaving normally, she also laid an egg today.

Day 2 of a 6 month old with sour crop - is "vomiting" her the only cure?

I am feeding her only water with apple cider vinegar, layer feed mixed with warm water, yogurt and apple cider vinegar. Can this get her to clear infection and crop on her own or should Try to tip her upside down and get her to clear it? I have never done this before, this is my first lock.

medicated vs non medicated starter feed

Feeding medicated feed to vaccinated chicks will not "nullify" their vaccines. They will simply have been exposed to a lot of antibiotics. Perhaps, it is simply a philosophical choice. I choose to avoid unnecessary antibiotic exposure. What ever the choice. Most people do not feed...

Hens have become extremely noisy now that they are laying! Will this go on forever? (Video in this t

Have you had neighbors complain? This is my biggest fear. I am not actually annoyed by all this commotion. I just fear a visit from animal control.

Hens have become extremely noisy now that they are laying! Will this go on forever? (Video in this t

This is about how it goes. 35 times per hour between 5:30 am and 5:30 pm. I can totally deal with this once per day per hen. Not as often as it is now, most times there is no egg laid from this whole procedure. Hopefully the above comments amount to - "don't worry soon they won't do this so...

Hens have become extremely noisy now that they are laying! Will this go on forever? (Video in this t

So, it is pretty normal that they go into the nesting boxes, with a cacophonous production from the flock, and not lay an egg (over, and over again)?

Hens have become extremely noisy now that they are laying! Will this go on forever? (Video in this t

I have 10 hens that are all laying or starting to lay (they are all 22-24 weeks old). When one goes into to lay, my Maran always stands at the door of the coop and clucks extremely loud. All the others join in. I figured this would happen in the morning when they lay, but this literally...

HELP - new to hens, first injury-possible broken leg

Oops sorry not to post a follow up. The next day (day 2 after the injury) she was out of the coop with the other she was limping a little but still scratching. I watched her closely, she was pretty much behaving normally by that evening. She slept on the roost with the others, so she got up...

5 month old flock - How should I stock the shed for basic care?

Thanks so much for your reply. Is Wazine a broad spectrum worm killer? I've read there are a lot of different wormers. Is this the best one to get?

5 month old flock - How should I stock the shed for basic care?

No major injuries yet. Yet, I want to have some stuff on hand in case there are any injuries as my neighbor has just had with her hens. I don't want to scramble for stuff. Can you seasoned flock keepers tell me the must haves? I have my feed ad DE. I use DE all around to prevent mites and...

Started feeding scratch every morning! Can't stop or I will have an angry noisy mob to answer!

Really!? The oats are a great option. I read that you cannot feed them uncooked. I read to at least steam them. Is that not true?

medicated vs non medicated starter feed

Well, that is a common parasite. I did not know they could vaciniate for that. Interesting. \Well, either way, its best to simply keep their environment really clean and just do organic, antibiotic free feed.

medicated vs non medicated starter feed

oh, ps. The maker of the feed is Modesto Mills. They are local to me here in Northern California. I am not sure how widely they are distributed.

medicated vs non medicated starter feed

I believe the immunization your speak of is for Marek's Disease which is a viral. That is completely different than the bacterial infection you would be attempting to prevent by using medicated chick starter feed. "Medicated" starter contains antibiotics. I feed non-medicated organic chick...
