    Hey Blue Egg Breeders!

No one? And that shows you how rusty I am. I want bantam Ameraucana's, not Araucanas. Preferrably blue wheaten, or lavendar (self blue).

Bathing A Silkie Tutorial (Pic HEAVY!)

I used to bathe them for shows only. But depending on your need, flock, and housekeeping practices, you may need to do it more often. Its personal preference really. I wouldn't suggest anything more often than every 2 to 4 weeks though, and thats only if you are have seriously dirty birds, or...

    Hey Blue Egg Breeders!

Its been some years since I've been an active participant in the chicken world, but I'm once again looking into starting a backyard flock. While I'm sure I'll have a Silkie or three in there, I primarily want a "breakfast flock". I know that I want at least one or two Araucana bantams in the...

My 17 hens are eating 50lbs in less than a day , is this normal ?

You sure the dogs aren't helping the birds out? 50lbs of feed a day for 17 birds sounds like quite a lot...

Too cold to let the girls out?

Block the north wind as best you can. Put a heat lamp in the coop with them, but make sure they have room to get away from the heat if they want. Try putting your waterer on an electric heating pad if you don't have a submersible heater. As long as they can get up and move around, and there...

**Found a Cockrel** What breed is he? Does he look healthy?

The comb and wattles look to be dubbed... at least from where I'm sitting. I'd put money he got loose from a fighting installation.

Nahhh. In the fashion world its called 'butterfly lighting' - but after looking at your galleries, I'm sure you knew that already! But, putting the lights on either side would work as well.

Bathing A Silkie Tutorial (Pic HEAVY!)

I wouldn't suggest it, for the exact reason you stated. It's easy to nip the quick. Besides, their feather legged... they're supposed to have feathers there! If cleanliness is an issue, I would slightly trim a little at a time just to clean it up a little. I wouldn't ever hack half the feather...

PROFESSIONALLY Photograph your chicks for under $2.00!

I haven't checked this thread in years probably, but funny enough I ended up moving on and opening up a full portrait studio from 2010 to 2012 before I moved to Houston - and pet photography was my specialty. I've photographed dogs, cats, guinea pigs.... but oddly, never a chicken. I guess I'll...

    Coop floors for wet climates...

We also rent our current residence, and although our landlord is a family member,, whatever I build has to be mobile enough for me to put on a trailer when/if we buy a house in the next few years. I'm thinking something along the lines of this...
