Chickens Really, you're right. I am worrying too much. There's been no blood or anything even close to that, but I can't help myself. I will occupy myself and not interfere unless actually necessary .... thanks!
I too was just going to post this question, I've been trying to integrate my flock for a few days. The older hens, about 28 weeks, are like mean girls but not pecking hard or causing blood, but the newer hens about 12 weeks are not "allowed," it seems to me, to be very far from the baby coop...
So I just noticed today that Puzzle has five toes, but on the one foot the fifth toe is fused together like it never separated. I feel bad that I just never noticed that before now. She was in my lap and we were hanging out together and that's when I noticed. Poor little mutt bird! Just thought...
This is Sheldon, I don't know really what he is (I would guess a leghorn x) but in any case he is beautiful to our family but he is trying to become quite aggressive--he is about 18 weeks old in this picture.
I didn't think she would be an Ayam Cemani at all but after doing a lot of research for the Asian black I would agree also! Thanks to all for all the help--I truly appreciate it.
Lomine, my thoughts exactly lol what feed store chick would be rare? I mean next time I'm out in the pen I'm going to tell her that though :) It is her black comb and such that really threw me off. In any case, I sure like the way she looks too. I might name her Puzzle because she truly is...
Chickencraz, Interesting cross if that is it! She does have a black tongue. I confess I had to Google that breed, have never heard of it. Bantamslave02, I thought at first too a black sex link but I've never seen one with black feet/comb/wattles/tongue (not that anything is not possible in the...
Been a long time since I've been around. Got some TSC chicks about 18 weeks ago and this one has me puzzled. I've made numerous guesses watching her grow but I don't really know and would love to hear everyone's opinion. :) She is not flighty, pretty friendly mostly and her black feathers are...

So sorry you lost a baby--I know it's hard
Oh, please do post back and let us know how this works. I have been eyeballing that sprouter for a while now, but was unsure of how it worked or if it worked!
I don't have any pics of when I got mine as chicks but they were kinda black/gray with a bit of light yellow spots, then they all turned white within a few weeks. I did post pics when I got them and I will see if I can find that post. Mine are all about 9 months old now...
This might help you with identifying the chicken poo:

I was curious since Marek's disease is contagious ( I thought) did the vet say anything about the other chick or the newest one being susceptible to it?
You are right mychickenbrood and no offense taken :)
I have ordered from them quite a few times over the last 6 years or so. This order and the way it was handled just dumbfounded me. I have always recommended Ideal in the past. Maybe there are new people working there or something. When I...
I must amend that statement above about the ducks being right. I ordered non-crested blue swedish and received 1 crested black swedish and 1 non-crested black swedish, ordered 4 females and received 3 males. Two are Pekin, which I did order, but both are males. Ideal has officially lost a...
For feather sexing, yes, but for Salmon Faverolles the black primaries coming in at 2 weeks is *usually* an indication of a male (which is what I thought when they starting coming in on my chick), but as I am finding out through all the help here that the hatchery bred chicks don't always follow...
