OK, riddle me this: how often does a broody hen go broody? The reason I ask is, ai jufter hatching out chicks this early Spring (march 6-8), one of my Banty hens went broody again over the weekend?She is perfectly content sitting on a small clutch, so I moved her last night to a broody box.Any...
That's what I was wondering too?! If I bred them would they have gold laced offspring or does the coloring get weird like with the blues? I guess I could see if their chicks had it too? Then determine if it was genetic or not.
I recently bought a Pair of Golden Laced Polish and I noticed they had bald spots in their crests but thought maybe others were ripping feathers out for whatever reason....I wasn't worried. But now its growing back white...... is that a flaw? Or is that normal? Could they have known it wasn't...
I had the same thing happen 2 weeks ago. I knew she was broody but seemed insecure and was getting pushed off her eggs so leaving her wasn't an option. She would walk all over the eggs like urs too when I moved her. I ended up putting her in a cat carrier where she was limited to moving around...
Nope. =(
I had purchased an additional coop this winter as a summer remodel project in hopes of setting it up better for broodys and babies....not knowing I would actually have 2 this spring. Bummer but we will make it work! COME ON WARM WEATHER!
My first broody hatched 7 of 9 cuties a cple days ago. She's in a seperate smaller pen and I was wondering if I let her out into the coop how will I make sure the babies go to the chick food? Will the hen automatically go to the layer pellets instead of taking the chicks to their food? Or should...
Oh nooooo...... my first broody girl has started hatching her chicks but must have stepped on one.....but didn't break the membrane....more like crush it a bit. I took the egg out and will candle it tonight but what can I do if anything to help save the baby?? Or is the damage done? The membrane...
Ok. So she just nest jumped again....?! I firmly believe she is broody. She's not laying eggs herself and she never leaves the nest (execpt to switch) and she's cranky with me. She always moves to a new nest that doesn't contain eggs....so maybe she's not broody?? Ahhhh I don't know?!:/ my other...
Should it be small to not encourage walking around? Like a cat carrier? I don't want to force her, but I feel she wants too she just isn't quite getting it..... and since she isn't laying now, because of it, I figure why not try....??
I have a young broody hen question. I have the older hen that is an expert but this hen is a 1st timer and is insecure or something. She first started to sit a few days ago so I let her and then moved her a cple days later to lower pen so others couldnt bug her since I saw she had been nest...
