I have two year old hens, and 6 week chicks, and 1 week old chicks. The tiny ones are inside the basement still (in a coop), but the older chicks and beg hens are in the barn abd yard together. I feed my big girls outside on the ground, and the chicks get fed in the barn, in their coop. I sware...
So....We got 15 out of 20 eggs hatched! They are a week old now! SO STINKIN cute!!!!!!! Im so happy that our first ever incubator hatch went so well! I was hopeful at first without knowing much, then stressed at the end, not knowing anything about the humidity! All turned out well! My cheapo...
HAPPY to see a lot of chickie mommies and daddies having a few birthdays today ;) We hatched 9 yesterday threw last night and early this morning!! Still waiting on more the next few days! Its our first incubator hatch. We're hooked ;)
Today is day 20 of Incubation and we are in lock down (even though it has not been locked down. lol I've had issues getting the humidity just right, so im playing around with it.
But anyway, when I woke up this morning I had FIVE pipped babies! two hours later we have seven! And we are hearing...
I am in late day 2 of lock down and my humidity is stuck at 55! I have a moist wash cloth in there, two small dishes with water and areas in bottom of bator fill! Temp is a steady 100. Help I'm worried!
OMG im jumping out of my skin! ;) I CANT wait to see what we get. Im being very optimistic! We have 24 eggs in there. During candling they looked great! Crossing fingers and getting anxious!
I have a HUGE yard for my girls, but over the last two years they have picked clean the ground and its only twigs and sand now. Once a week I let then free range on our acre (thats the only time I can do because of my work and home schedule...) Are they ok living like this, or should they have...
I have seen some people use shelf liner to help new chicks stand easier then on the grate. Can I use a kitchen towel or sheet of cotton fabric? Is that safe to keep in the bator during the lock down days? Any other ideas??

Emma, Holly (she roosts in the holly tree very night), Pup (she LOVE to follow around our dogs and even perches on them if she gets the chance!) and Mama (Black sexlink on left, she was our first broody hen!)
We have a few eggs in the bator getting really to hatch around the 4th. How should I go about introducing them to the rest of my flock? (13 hens and 1 roo) I will keep them inside obviously until their feathers grow, But im wondering how the clan will take to the new babies...
