Prolapsed vent in newly hatched ducklings?

Both of the ducklings with this issue perished unfortunately. I have been using this incubator for a couple years fairly successfully, but I think my thermometer ceased to be accurate, and the temperature was too high near the end of the incubation, causing them to hatch a little prematurely...

Prolapsed vent in newly hatched ducklings?

Interesting. The other one was much worse looking, vein-y, and a huge amount of blood came out. There was a puddle about six inches wide around the egg. They hatched only one day early, so I don't think anything was too far off in the incubation. I wonder why that would happen?

Prolapsed vent in newly hatched ducklings?

Thanks for your interest. I called my vet, and he had never heard of this either. The ducklings are still alive, but these protrusions appears to be shriveling. I will keep people updated.

Prolapsed vent in newly hatched ducklings?

I apologize for how gross this is.... This is the least bad of the two.

Prolapsed vent in newly hatched ducklings?

I have a favorite duck, and I just hatched some of her eggs. One died in the shell, but two others hatched with a lot of blood and fluid coming out of the egg. They both looked like they were born with prolapsed vents, big masses hanging outside the vent, but somehow they hatched. Has anyone...

My incubator got cold 3 days before the hatch. Will they still hatch? How can I tell if they are sti

Update: The eggs have not yet hatched, but they are still alive! It's officially 4 days past the hatch date. I don't know what to think, but I will keep on incubating them so long as they show life.

My incubator got cold 3 days before the hatch. Will they still hatch? How can I tell if they are sti

Will do. The temp was still low an hour after I removed the dead eggs, so I think taking that much mass out of the incubator caused the heat to go down. I added more water, and turned it up a teeny bit. Monitoring it often now to make sure it's stable. I will leave it shut from here on out...

My incubator got cold 3 days before the hatch. Will they still hatch? How can I tell if they are sti

I have been keeping the incubator at about 99 degrees. I just noticed this morning after removing the inactive eggs that it dropped a couple degrees, I turned up the heat a little. Will extra heat help, especially if they have been traumatized? BTW, thanks everyone for your input. Sometimes a...

My incubator got cold 3 days before the hatch. Will they still hatch? How can I tell if they are sti

The two that I determined to be alive are still alive, but they haven't even pipped yet, and it's the due date. They are noticeably warmer than the other 4, so I removed those ones to be certain they didn't contaminate the incubator. One duckling is very fiesty--a small egg from a Welsh...

My incubator got cold 3 days before the hatch. Will they still hatch? How can I tell if they are sti

Indeed, now that it's dark I can see movement in at least 2 of them, almost like they banging against the membrane on the air sac. I hope my eyes aren't playing tricks on me! Fingers crossed. I will leave them alone until the hatching period is over.

My incubator got cold 3 days before the hatch. Will they still hatch? How can I tell if they are sti

I would guess that it dropped to about 70 degrees. From what I hear, below 77 is bad. I thought I saw some movement in at least 1 of the 7, and most of them still have blood vessels visible, which I hope is good. I haven't seen movement yet today, but it's easier to see at night.

My incubator got cold 3 days before the hatch. Will they still hatch? How can I tell if they are sti

I made a horrible mistake and accidentally unplugged my incubator. It cooled off for about 24 hours before I realized what had happened. The ducks were due to hatch in 3 days at the time, now 1 day. Do they have a chance of surviving? How can I tell this late in the incubation if they are still...
