Hi everyone! Haven't posted in a good long while - lots of random, very little time going on at my house! You may remember a while back that we got an EE hen to add to our little flock...and that the hen eventually CROWED! Yep, she was a rooster. We decided to keep him and name him Victor...
I don't know if any of you saw this...but it made me laugh!

I am so sorry Dutchbunny! I don't think you're overreacting at all - it's heartbreaking, and to happen on top of the stress of your husband deploying...that's absolutely a guarantee for a meltdown. A well-deserved meltdown!
I checked one of our eggs before i cooked it for my breakfast this morning, and I believe there was a dot. If you want a few to try and hatch out, I'll keep some out of the fridge and bring them to you. Just let me know.
Oh, and by the way TGIF!!
I'm in Ramseur, and we have a gorgeous EE Roo. We might have fertile eggs... I'm not entirely sure how to tell! If someone wants to give me a hand with that, I'd be happy to give you what fertilized ones we have.
When I was a kid in Wyoming, our neighbors had some peacocks. Gorgeous...but they sound very much like a woman yelling, "Help!" repeatedly. For people who don't know what a peacock sounds like, it can be a little alarming!
This is a really good point. We're looking at forming an LLC to sell our soaps/lotions/other stuff because of the liability issue. Even if they don't have a case, you'll still have the expense of the process, and that's not cheap.
So sweet! Our little dog Tanner (chihuahua/Peke) has to fight his instinct every time he sees our chickens. The problem is, he's MOSTLY instinct! LOL But all the girls have to do is turn around the give him "The Look" and he stops so fast his little behind hits the ground. Then he turns...
Nevermind - just fixed the two pictures I submitted. Love looking at everyone's birds! I'm jealous of how wonderful these pics are. I have a terrible time taking pictures of my birds...they always move at exactly the WRONG moment!
I finally got some pictures of our flock with the new addition - Victor, the Ameracauna/EE rooster. Named after the character in the movie "Victor/Victoria" since he was a guy pretending to be a girl when we got him. LOL He's SO gorgeous, but it's really hard to get a picture of him that...
Yep, which is (ironically) why we decided not to have roosters and why we have been picking up mostly full-grown hens here and there. This was the first chicken we've gotten that wasn't plenty old enough to be sure about the sex. We're deciding now what we want to do about our little chromosome...
Well crud, I was afraid of that! The little guy seriously looked like a hen a couple of weeks ago! LOL Oh well. Sooo...anyone want a really pretty EE rooster??
OK chicken buddies, I've got a sexing question for all you experts! We picked up an older EE chick several weeks ago, and felt fairly confident that it was a hen. Now, we're not so sure. Our son swears he heard it trying to crow! I grabbed some pics with my cell phone while we had it outside...
