Ohhh, there is also dry poopy looking stuff at the end of all of this - that's what I thought was the pasty butt. I think this may actually be causing some real pasty butt too.
Andrew
One of the chicks that hatched out during the night - two nights ago - had a mess on it that looks like a pasty butt, but when I looked at it, it looks like it has an outty belly button. The 'outty belly button' looks like it might be about as big around as a regular pencil and has a yellowish...
Thanks... I did go ahead and move the new ones out. We are still at one with a pip and the others with nothing. Hopefully we'll have some more in the next couple of days. We'll see.
We do have 5 that seem happy and healthy.
They have been drinking and nibbling, but not eating a notcable...
We are at 22-23 hours since first chick hatched - there are 6 eggs left to hatch. One has a pip, the others do not. Should I move the new chicks to the brooder?
If I hear nothing on the forums by 3PM today, I'm gonna move the newbies and let the rest incubate some more.
Andrew
I had 2 chicks that hatched out yesterday before bed time with one on the way(it had two small wholes made). 3 more were there this morning! Yeah!!! Anyway, when I put them on the bottom of the incubator at day 18, I candled them in the procss. About half of the eggs were completely dark below...

I'd think you would do it 3 days before the hatch date - when they start moving into the break out position. I don't think it would work real wellfor turning them - at least individually. I have an automatice turner and all it does it rock the eggs from one side to the other. Maybe you...
I have them laying on the bottm loose. That make sense though. Does that make it any easier or harder for them to hatch out?
Should I leave it alone at this point since they are already pipping or would it still be good to put them in a carton? I'd imagine I should leave them as that last 3...
I have pips! When should I remove the chicks from the inbator and put them in the brooder? Should I leave them in the incubator until they are dry and fuzzy, or from some of the other posts I've read about messy stuff - should I take them out and clean them up with moist towel, then put them...
Well, I didn't go well at all.
The hen did not want to take them. I think maybe she thought they were some kind of nest invaders! She would leave them alone for a little bit, but if they got too close to the outter edges around her sides, she'd grab them and toss them out. So long as they...

If it were me, in your shoes, and taking a day off from work wouldn't be an issue, I'd wait for the call, then go get them. Three more hours (six round trip) isn't going to make much difference over the whole shipping ordeal. You'll need to spend some time with them, once you get them, to set...
We have 3 - 1 week old baby guineas. We also have a hen that went broody and has been sitting on a nest of eggs 4-6 days. We want to go out at night, steal her eggs and put them in the incubator, and put the baby guineas under her.
The baby guineas at 1 week old look like brand new baby...
I am in NE West Virginia and the only two orders I did from MM were hard on our chicks. Same info you gave as far as when they send them out, but last spring (2007) we got our chicks on a Tuesday and the same thing this year.
This last batch was shipped over a weekend where we had a cold...

Yep, they are under a nice warm heat lamp - set it low enough that they force a ring instead of trying to cluster right under the center. The first water they got had the Quik Chik Vitamins and Electolytes added to it (based on directions given) and 2 tablespoons of sugar to 1/2 gallon of water...
