Do any of you happen to be near Crown Butte? I have a friend who found a nice roo randomly out there today while fishing. She doesn't want to leave him behind.... But she lives in town and can't take him along.
Levi, how many Pekin ducks do you have? I took in a couple ducks that someone dumped outside a school a couple years ago. One was a Pekin. My kids convinced me to get a couple more the other day from runnings. These two really look like runners to me, but I am not a duck expert at all. :)
I had posted this in another thread, and then it was brought to my attention that it might get more notice if it were in this section so I am going to post it here too.
Thanks. I will go post it there too. I never thought about it before, just decided to search and see if there was already info out there. I have read the assisted hatching guide several times before, I guess it is time for a refresher. Thanks again!
I would sell chicks in the Bismarck area. You can along my info! I can always only find people looking for pullets or hens and I do not trust my sexing just yet.
My hatch is pretty much over. I've got 4 eggs left in the incubator, one is a possible hatch. The other 3 I am pretty certain are...
I know this thread is not too active, but maybe someone has an idea.
I am on the last days of my guinea hatch. I had 4 hatch yesterday. I have 4 eggs remaining. Today should have been hatch day.
I removed the 4 keets this morning because my humidity was seeming to drop and I wanted to add...
I put my eggs into lockdown last night. There are no BBS Marans left. I have 9 guinea eggs remaining and one lonely little SBEL egg. I guess after the incubator went bottom side up that is not terrible, but it hardly is worth the work for 10 eggs. :/
I candled my eggs 2 days ago. I have 10 guinea eggs in there and one SBEL. Unfortunately, all the BBS Marans were dead or smooshed after the incubator spill. I have thought about ordering more and doing one more hatch, untitled with the traveling we want to do this summer, I am not sure I...
There are a few other breeds with feathered legs too. Marans, brahmas, and I think salmon faverolls. ( I know I spelled that incorrectly!). But I have seen Cochins as you described as well.
This was the one I think was daddy. And mama was a plain white Cochin that I picked up at runnings when I bought my very first chickens. I have no idea where the grey or blue or lavender coloring would have come from. I do not have any chickens that are that color with the exception of...
If you really want to be able to see who etching wait till day 7. By day 5 you should be able to see veins and whatnot. There is an awesome article here about candling and hatching. Let me see if I can find it.
I guess, I never attribute blood rings to myself when I run a hatch. They happen in nature too, just mama gets rid of them before they cause a problem with other eggs. I always set any that I am unsure of away on an alone side of the incubator and watch for seeping or signs that they are bad...
That is too bad! It just must be a bad time to hatch BCMS around here. I want to try again, just not sure when I can fit it into the calendar from the rest of our travels this summer.
Thank you. She is my second favorite in the bunch. As far as her breeding, I have a white Cochin that we bred with a buckeye roo last year. From that hatch we got one male that looked similar, but with some barred gold on his hackles. I sort of think this hen might be from the same...
Here are a few newer pictures of some of our EE's hatched in March.
My daughter named her Chubby Cheeks
This is Wacky Doo.
I expect this to be a rooster from my SBEL hen and Buckeye/Cochin Roo. I have a very hard time figuring out these ones with the leghorn genes.
Jealous! I had a bunch of BCM too. My husband had an accident with the incubator though, and from 45 eggs I am down to just a handful of guineas. I have 2 BCM left in there, but I am quite certain they are dead. i might plan one more attempt at them right when I leave for my trip this...
