My chickens have gone from laying 10 eggs a day down to 3 or 4 and today I got 0. Is it because of the winter/daylight already? Or does it seem too early. This is their first year laying.
She is spending a lot of time in there today, for sure. I can see them before they see me, But when they see me coming she jumps down and gets excited right with the rest of them. I don't think she is broody, but she sure likes that nesting box. I do think she laid that egg last night... Who knows.
I have been finding a shell less egg on the ground under the roost every morning. It looks like someone has been dropping it from the roost as night. They are new layers so I am trying not to be concerned!
I have asked a million questions on this site the last few days. Sorry if that's annoying, but I get concerned so easy!
The last three days I have had a chicken trying to sleep in the nesting boxes. I pulled her out the last two days and watched today to make sure there wasn't an issue with...
I have a question -- maybe I am premature in my worries.
Last night we had a horrible storm, we weren't expecting it and the chickens were out free ranging (thank goodness!). Well in the storm we had 70 plus mph winds and the chicken coop flipped over twice. No chickens were hurt, they were all...
Mine just started laying. I don't let them out until about 5, when I have gotten what I feel like is most of the eggs for the day. As they start getting more comfortable laying in my nesting boxes I will let them out earlier and they generally will come back when they are ready to lay. I still...
Found my first egg off this bunch of chickens in the coop yesterday. It was huge! Must have been one of the leghorns, but I don't know which one! Excited :-)
Yea, we always have had guineas we let roost in the trees and they just get picked off one by one. Not super quick, but they don't normally last the year. We don't even get them anymore because I don't really like losing them!
The roost may very well be the issue. I didn't even think about...
They are only about 16 weeks, and we've been letting them free range for about 2 weeks now. They go back in the coop at night, and I go out right before dark to check and close the coop. Saturday, my chickens were out free ranging and we went to dinner. I didn't expect to be out late, but we got...
I got some Blu-Kote and sprayed her last night and put her back in the coop. I tried to clean it but not super confident that it was dry. I have had chickens for just over a year and I don't think I am super comfortable with them yet! I went out and gave her a light spray again this morning when...
She was okay this morning, I didn't mess with her much except to feed her. How long could it take for her to start healing? Will re-introducing her to the flock be an issue? I worried about this all night!
Okay, so I went out to put some stuff on it. It was hard, maybe like it was scabbed up already? That's good, right?
Plus, She kinda smells bad. Not like normal chicken bad but kinda funny bad smell. Any ideas?
I have never had a chicken hurt like that!
So I went out to feed the chickens today, and I found this poor chicken. Shes acting normal but it doesn't look good. I have made our old rabbit hutch into a chicken hospital for her, but what else can I do? Help her :-(
I didn't see an e-mail update! I didn't think anyone ever wrote me back! :-) Thanks guys.
I may post more and better pictures sometime soon. If I know for sure I don't have a roo I will try to find one, I would like at least one! I like the crowing in the morning :-)
I'm still pretty new at this, but I think all my chickens are still girls... Please let me know if you see any roosters in the bunch. A little more than 8 weeks old.
