SUNNYDEE'S PET CHICKENS
(under construction..so please be patient. Need to figure the picture loading thing!)
I am 38 years old. I have two children, my son is 17 and my daughter is 12. We have two maine coon cats who are 4 years old and a 5 year old yellow lab/golden retriever. I have my...
Mine would not use the ladder at that age either. We just kept putting them in through that opening and making them come out that way. After a week or so they got "brave" and started using it! Good luck!
Mine head in as soon as dusk comes....if they hear us outside they will stay out longer but by the time the sun is down, they are in for the night. I am not sure if age makes a difference. When mine were younger (all are now a year old) they would stay out and I would have to "show" them to go...
I used hardware cloth everywhere on my run except for the top, which I used 1/2" chicken wire. I also buried the hardware cloth about 1/2 foot under ground curling it out. I probably could of used something cheapier but I was not about to do this again!
I would give them some vegtabke oil and massage their crops. Maybe stop their food for awhile, make sure they are drinking plenty. Mine 6 girls ate almost a full sheet of 8x6 styrofoam board and they were perfectly fine. Good Luck!
Just plain cool water and lemon juice makes a nice shine on hardwood floors. I have the laminate stuff here....not "real" wood like my other house. On the laminate I only use a damp rag and wipe clean.
Your very welcome! I learned from experience that any change in their coop will freak them out for days!
When mine got a little bigger, I changed from a floor feeder to a much bigger hanging kind. They didn't eat their feed for over a week!
So just to for warn you...when you make...
And just something to think about...I also built my nest boxes later on thinking I had plenty of time. I took my girls almost a week to realize those big huge scary nest boxes were not out to get them!
Yup..I washed it and added it to the "family" egg box in the fridge. All my girls have been laying since November. Speaking of...guess I better get back out there....I am sure I have 4 to 5 to collect.
The egg wasn't big at all. Was actually smaller than usual. I will just have to keep an eye out on them and hope this is not a sign of any problems.
Thanks for the advice everyone!
I really don't think you will be able to grow grass from seed with the chickens in it. They will just gobble all the seeds down in a matter of minutes. Is there a way you can pen off another area for their run while the other has a chance to grow?
I plan to move my run this spring so grass...
