    Eggs starting to hatch

Status update on the chicks. Got them moved into the garage last night into the enclosure we built for our 2 "adult" ducks when they were little. Daddy seemed to ignoring the chicks and stepping on them so he got to stay in the yard as normal. Mommy got to spend the night with the wee ones...

    Eggs starting to hatch

Good to know, I will get the starter feed. I may move them all indoors during the night then (so far the only predator has been a possum that actually got a couple of the eggs 2 weeks ago).

    Eggs starting to hatch

This morning my wife checked after I left for work and it looks like we have 7 ducklings that hatched overnight. We haven't got a good count yet as mommy doesn't want us to close. Since they are outdoors "free ranged" is there anything we should do (any input would be great)? I'm guessing we...

    Eggs starting to hatch

We have 2 "free range" (in the back yard) ducks that seem to have done everything right. The female had started to lay eggs a month and half ago. We weren't sure if they were fertilized but she's been sitting on them so we let her do her thing. We just got back from an 8 day trip and her eggs...

These were the 3 out in the open eggs. Didn't get a pic of the 2 "nests", will try to get those tonight.

    Starting to Get Duck Eggs

I'm assuming she's lay at night too. I just read somewhere that ducks don't mate very well outside of water. Since they only have a small tub of water, not sure if the deed is getting done. I'm thinking of picking up all the eggs tonight and see which nest she uses. Then we can keep better track...

    Starting to Get Duck Eggs

This weekend (Sat) we stumbled upon some eggs in the backyard, so it's confirmed, our Pekin duck is female. Our ducks (we have 2 total, the other one is male) are free ranged in the backyard, so we started looking around for any other signs of eggs. We found 3 in the open, 1 in a what I would...

    Duck Breed?

Wanted to get some input now that our 2 ducks are bigger. I'm rather sure the white duck (cream) is a Pekin, but don't know what the other duck (Coffee) breed is? Would anyone know what breed he/she is? The dark area on the wing, which looks black in the pic is actually blue/green in color.

    Breed of my 2 ducks?

Thank you for the info. As far as we know they are the same age. The white one is larger tan the other but not by much. Here they are yesterday getting a bit of swim time.

    Breed of my 2 ducks?

He/she's just says "What ya looking at?". Both of them both are somewhat skittish, not sure if that's normal or not at this age. Hoping that goes away with time.

The store is in Gilroy, CA. I will have to check with them on their source.

    Breed of my 2 ducks?

We got 2 ducks from a local feed store 2 weeks ago. The guy on duty that day wasn't sure of the breeds. I'm sure the white one is a Pekin but not sure on the other one, any ideas? Also, any input on age would be great. I'm guessing in the 5-6 week range.
