Not near as exciting as an emu hatching, but...we have three chicks hatched plus 1 zipped, and 7 or 8 pipped. The one that hatched last night is fluffy and cheeping away waiting for his (or her) siblings to join him in the brooder box. On a related note, chick #1 hadn't fully absorbed the yolk...
Yeah, youth hunters do not have to buy a license. I understand if someone is trying to feed their family, but killing just for the sake of killing isn't right or fair to the wildlife or other hunters, for that matter.
We had one easter egger hen for several years and it was always a treat to find a blue egg. If I had more room in the coop I would definitely get some blue egg layers or olive eggers.
And congrats on the new chicks! They're too dang cute!
I took my daughter hunting for the first time when she was 5. It was a great lesson on patience...for both of us! I think AGFC was having issues with people harvesting animals during youth hunts and checking them under the name of toddlers. Which, in my opinion is not very sportsmanlike since a...

Holy moly! I'm going to have to do better at keeping up with my post-reading. I slack off for a couple days and I'm 9,999 posts behind!
I'm on Day 12 on the batch I have cooking right now. Candled over the weekend and removed 5 clears, so we are expecting 36 new babies soon! P.S. My hubby...
You'll get mixed answers about what are best for layers. Personally, barred rocks are my favorite for layers. That being said, I raise mostly wyandottes--decent layers, not terribly flighty, and I love the body type and colors. You should check out some of the Facebook poultry groups. I'm sure...
