    Bobwhite Question

I had a hen go broody when she was paired with a male in 3x8 pen. She laid 8 eggs and had 6 little ones. It was pretty neat to see her raise them. They used to hide in her wings for the first week or so to keep warm. I've only had it happen once in about 8 years but i don't typically have just a...

    Egg Turner Advice PLZ!!!

No it shouldn't raise you temp. I would pay attention to it to make sure but you can always make a minor adjustment with the temp if need be. Its a lost easier to adjust the temp once than to have to turn those eggs several times a day.

Raising an embryo outside of the egg!?

was this the youtube video you saw Higins00? Those are just snap shots of different eggs that were cracked at different stages of development. You can see in one of the still frames that the yolk is ruptured and then in the next its not. If the yolk is rupture the embryo definitely won't survive...

Raising an embryo outside of the egg!?

I'm a student at Penn State and we just completed a chick embryo dissection lab. We cracked open eggs that were incubated for 3 days and looked at the effects of temperature on their development. The eggs were cracked open into a dish with about 2 inches of saline solution. You could see the...

has anyones power ever gone off while incubating?

I have lost it after they hatched and were only a day or two old. I had them in my basement in an enclosed circle for a brooder. So of course they had no heat source with the power out so i put a heavy blanket over top to insulate them. The poer came back after about 12 hours and they all made...

    Temp question

I bought a digital thermometer and i had the same problem. After I noticed the difference between the digital and the regular old fashion one on top of the eggs I stuck with the one on the eggs because I used that one before and it was reliable. I would say go with the one thermometer that is...

Mine love apples. Pretty much any kind of apple in fact. They also are big fans of sweet corn as well. They can pick an ear clean in no time. I also noticed that if you pull the center out of a cornstalk before it develops ears they love that tooo. Finally I think their all time favorite...

    Breeding Northern Bobwhite Quail

Has anyone had any luck breeding Northern Bobwhite in breeder pens. I made a breeder pen with dimension of 1.5ft long and 2.5ft deep and set them up in pairs. I have tried it twice and each time the males end up pecking the females to the point where they nearly kill them. I have pretty much...

    ashes

Dusting in ashes shouldn't cause any problems provided you aren't burning any wood that is pressure treated or painted or anything like that. Personally I have never tried it but i have also hear that it works well and the birds love it. I generally stick to sand.
