Rooster who doesn’t act like a rooster...?

I am just going to hope he stays chill. If it weren’t for the feathers you would never guess he was a rooster. He’s such the baby of the flock right now and he’s not the youngest in the group.

Rooster who doesn’t act like a rooster...?

He’s just a little over three months old, but doesn’t have an ounce of dominance - I kind of feel bad for the little guy lol

Rooster who doesn’t act like a rooster...?

So our sweet boy here very much appears to be a rooster, but based on behavior not so much. He is the smallest chicken in the group of hens and sleeps tucked up underneath our two leghorn girls. Now we aren’t supposed to have roosters, but I feel horrible giving him to a place that says they...

I can sex your pullets and cockerels!

Trying to sex these two. Assuming grey one is a rooster, silkie I can’t figure out.

    Wobbly hen

ok so most of my hens stopped laying shortly after we brought in a rescued hen. I assumed they were mad at the new addition plus the weather has been weird. Then I noticed an excess of barred rock feathers so I assumed they were molting - and one in particular looks much smaller and you can see...

Don't know what breed or gender you have? Click here!

Thanks! I wish I could remember if we were getting two blue eggs a day or not - I thought we had been, but now I'm questioning that one....

Don't know what breed or gender you have? Click here!

Any idea what she is? I had two - one was for sure laying blue eggs. The second one died and I thought she stopped laying because we stopped getting blue eggs. Now I'm wondering if she was really laying brown all along and I didn't realize it...? I thought we were getting two a day for a bit...

    Swollen crop?

So we bought four chicks yesterday, by evening one of them had a bald swollen spot. Is it just her crop? Or should I be worried something else is wrong?

    Bald swollen lump on chest

We just picked up 3-4 week old RIR and Barred Rack chicks this morning. All were fine, then this evening I discovered one with a huge bald section that looked like a swollen lump. Any ideas?

Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

I too have been feeding my little girl a mash and the rest of the girls join in with her to eat some, but always let her finish eating by herself and let her get priority when it comes to eating.

Rabbit Hutch Style Coop And Run

So this has been a multistep process. We started out by getting this coop/hutch off of Craigslist. The person had gotten it for rabbits, but said it could also be used for chickens and that in fact her own chicken had hopped in and laid an egg in there that morning. Dog and Cat jointly...

Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

Thanks everyone! You all really give me hope! I can't believe sometimes how attached I am to all of my girls especially Roxanne, she is just the sweetest thing and not the personality I ever expected when I got chicken, but the one I hoped they would have.

Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

Thank you! They are some pretty little girls! :) I was just telling my mom they have all gotten relatively tame and like to be petted now when I give them food at night when they are in their coop, I think they have been watching the dogs and cats too much (lol) I'll try going over there...

Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

When you go to the feed store and ask for powdered vitamins for the chickens will they know what I am talking about? Also question to everyone else, my girls are roughly 11 weeks I read somewhere that the cross beak won't get any worse once they reach 18 weeks of age, is that actually the...

Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

I had previously posted my own thread about this and someone directed me to this thread, so glad to see other people going through the same thing as I am! I'm a first time chicken raiser, my Grandpa has had chickens on and off for years but this is a first for me. I have what are supposed...
