I'm new to chickens this year but have learned a lot from this forum. One thing I noticed and then read about was the squatting. Do yours squat if you go to pet them? When I noticed this they seemed to lay pretty quickly.
I'm going to say something different then everyone else and I may be wrong but I only say it for a few different reasons. 1 being I have one that looks just like them and 2 I own a feed store and sell lots of chicks in the spring and that's where mine came from. I always order specific breeds so...
First I want to fix the typo saying "I have not seperated them" as I did right away. Tonight I made them a new coop in the barn as it started to rain and I felt really bad for them being in the rain and injured. So they are nice and dry and warm. I brought home some Blu-kote as I have read some...
I have 2 chickens that are seperated because they are younger then the 6 others. We got them all this year but they are about 4 weeks younger. They are in the pen right next to the others where they can see eachother but not get to them. They have been in there for several weeks now. Yesterday...
I ordered mine from eBay, plastic screw in ones and they drip at the pin too. So it sounds like push in are better? What about the all metal kind? So what are the best nipples to order and where from? I would love to know.
After doing a lot of reading on here we tried the apple cider vinager and that really seemed to help. None of the babies we have got pasty. It's good to know that the vit and elec. work too.
I have to say...I love this idea! We are adding an 8x8 run onto an 3x8. I think I'm going to make a removable grazing frame to fit about 4x4 in the new run and plant some seed for them. The rest I will leave dirt and add a little play sand for dust baths. Then I can remove it yearly and plant...
You need to keep them separate for a week or two before you put them together. You want to make sure no one is sick because you are mixing your flocks. Then they should be fine, just watch for pecking. Good luck. :-)
From the research I've done here dirt is fine. Some use sand, wood chips, shavings just about anything. I think I'm going to just leave dirt in mine. We are going to skirt our fence out to keep predictors out. I might add some sand in a corner for dust baths.
Hey...I have an elbert mailing...
Hi there, I have been reading and learning for a couple weeks now and decided to let myself be known. I'm new to owning chickens this year. I own a feed store and have been selling them for 3 years now but the hubby and I decided to finally get some. We have 3 growing boys so we go through a...
