I need the help of a few experts! I am going to get some straight run 7 week old OEs and EEs tomorrow at a nearby farm. How can I improve my chances of getting pullets? My first attempt at getting chicks left me with 3 roos that have to go back to the farm and 2 hens (which isn't quite a...

OK--third coop modification in as many hours! I went out to check and they were piled up in the run up against the wiring--didn't seem safe at all :( Now they are in the coop--door blocked and preening under the heat lamp. I feel like they are safer and less exposed. And maybe this will...
The run and the coop are both elevated and predator proof. But I can't reach the opening between the two very easily at all...so I am ok with them just thinking of the whole construction as home, but it would be nice if they slept inside on the roost.
Yes--I decided that too---I have the red lamp and familiar bedding in the coop. Still no door, but they all went in, got on the roost, got off, and started screaming like I was murdering them :( I imagine they were yelling "I DON"T LIKE CHANGE" at me, and I just left them cause I couldn't stand...
Hey--I inherited my raised coop and run and there is no door between the two. This is their first night out and I am worried that they will never learn to go into the coop and roost. I don't know how to make them since the two structures are attached--will they just want to roost and go in...
I don't have electricity out there...but the ice water seems to be helping. I know chickens have to deal with heat but I was just worried since they are young and this is their first week outside....thanks y'all!
Hey Y'all--new to chickens and need some expertise ! I am trying to acclimate my 5 week old chicks to the outside by leaving them in the run all day for a week or so before leaving them out all night towards the end of the week. But it is so hot and humid out (Alabama 90 degrees). They are...
I am in Alabama too and the rain is spoiling my "acclimate the girls to the outside" plan. I am sure a few of mine are going to crow soon too---everyday I change my mind about how many hens I have. How old are they usually when they start to crow? Mine are 5 weeks and still make baby peeping...
Hey Lisa---I am Holly and I am in Birmingham too. My first set of chickies are 5 weeks and I am trying to acclimate them to their outside coop this week---but the rain is spoiling some of that plan. I am a total chicken newbie too---so I bet we will have a lot of the same questions. Your...
Thanks so much for the response---I did clean their pen. But they have gone to sleep now, and some others suggested they are just getting tired of their brooder. Fussing...bored...that sort of thing. And they said as their chickies got older they did it too :)
Thanks so much! They have gone to sleep now, and I think that is it--just pitching a fit. I am getting their coop on Thursday, and will start to acclimate them to the outside this weekend. I think they are just ready for their big girl room.
Hey y'all--I posted this in another section, but i really need some quick feedback that isn't happening :( I am worried about my girls....

Hey--My 4 week olds are in their brooder and are peeping like crazy--almost constantly. The temperature is fine--they are evenly spaced around the brooder. They are eating and drinking. I have things for them to climb on and have given them some treats...but they keep on cheeping. They seem...
