There is a standard in Russia- this is information from a Russian website. Tried to translate as best as I could. Hope this is helpful Cocks: Head : medium-sized, round. Crest : Narrow, as if compressed from sides, and slightly tilted forward, but does not touch the beak, feathers pointing...

I'm fairly new to hatching and I've been using the little giant... First hatch was 0%, second hatch I had three out of 20, and my last hatch was 20 out of 22! Only thing I did different was I only filled up one of the reservoirs until lock down then added three cups with sponges in them. Only...

So as she grows more she'll lose all that color on her tail/back area? I'll have to take a picture in sunlight so you can see it more clearly, but problem is it's been cloudy everyday!!! And I really, really want more Don't know why my hatch rate was so bad. I hatched a 95% rate with my Javas...

I've noticed that my pullet has developed a few gold feathers. They just appeared the last couple of days. I don't want to cull her but I also don't want to breed her in the future if this is undesirable.

Thanks for all that historical info in the archive. I really enjoyed reading it and it makes me even more excited about the breed. Where do you think the yellow chicks with brown striping came from?

Ventilation is definitely important but I think that wind chill was the reason my birds got frostbite. I refuse to leave my birds in the coop all day so it's a risk I'm willing to take. We had a week of - 20 winds, after that all my roosters suffered some severe frostbite. I just wish hedemora...

Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

Hi :) I had a failed hatch with only one little Iowa Blue. My incubator is on the fritz. So I'd like to buy some chicks. Are the hatchery IB "decent" quality? I love this breed and would really like to help preserve them. Out of Privett, Sandhill, and Ideal which have the best quality? Or if...

    Frostbitten Comb- Vaseline Didn't Work

Even non-gamefowl look nice dubbed in my opinion. I don't have anyone to help me,either. It can be kind of terrifying at first but it's not so bad after the first few dubs. Mine acted like they were dying the first 10 minutes after dubbing but then they were back to normal. I think they were...

    Frostbitten Comb- Vaseline Didn't Work

We've had really cold winds here this winter and most of my roos have had severe frostbite. If it gets past the points I just dub them. The roosters are a lot happier now and in a lot less pain. I have tried vaseline and have adequate ventilation, but I also refuse to keep my birds cooped up...
