Before the new coop was finished, my 4 yr old buddy said: This would make a great playhouse!!
She was the only neighbor that I thought would give me any problems. Being such a pain that I am....my compost barrel is also between the chickens and her. She doesn't come into that part of her yard (very hilly) so unless she climbs around bushes and the fence, she's blocked from sight.
I liked...
Our former mayor wants chickens allowed. But we have some really arrogant commissioners who only help their friends and I'm not one of them!
That said, I planted roses along the fence between my closest neighbor and the coop. Between that and the honeysuckle vines, she couldn't smell them to...
My name gives you an idea of what I do. My first coop was small (3 chickens) and almost at my back door. It actually fit in a little set-back so it wasn't seen unless you walked up to it. We decided to expand since it went so well. It can't be seen from the road and the only one with a view is...
I'm thinking fatty liver syndrome may actually have been the culprit. Turned out that she was the biggest eater of the group. Since she's gone, I've used about 1/5 the amount I was using before she died. Just didn't think a bird would eat its self to death as it appears she did.
Checked through it and what I used wasn't listed on there. Just seemed so strange that she was fine one day and dead the next. I've switched the other ladies back to their original feed and will just pray for the best.
Thanks for the input.
She had only been on scratch for 3 days. It's the only change they've had.
I went right out and got their usual feed. Hopefully everyone else will be alright.
That was the first thing I told my husband when we found her. I can't risk loosing anyone (I only had 3 to begin with). They didn't seem to like the scratch that much anyway.
I just went outside and found my favorite BO laying dead in the middle of the coop. No signs of trauma or anything. She looks like she just laid down and died. Aprox. age was 8 1/2 months. She was my rowdy girl, last one up the ramp when I needed to lock them up and protesting all the way up...
Joyce laid first and then a day or so later, Ruth laid hers and two days later Maggie joined the laying community! In 6 days we've gotten 8 eggs. Not bad for their first week.
