4wk Old White Silkies - NEW TO THE SILKIE WORLD

I have raised many kinds and colors of Silkies. They are just like other chickens but I found they don't do well with the larger breeds and bantams that are real active. They are quiet and not" pushy "enough and don't compete well for food and nests. They crow but their crow isn't very loud...

I am also new to silkies and I have three right now living in my garage until we get the bantam coop done. They are VERY sweet little things and everything seems to pick on them except my polish hen. She is very nice to them so I put them all together. I take care of them as I do my older...

On a serious note, I would advocate paying close attention to their feet too, as their foot feathering can harbor ouchie things...burrs and other prickly things, against their legs and toes. Someone here posted a thread with detailed instructions and photos about bathing them. That has already...

Congratulations! I love my little Silkies. I always treated them just like any other chicken, as far as their care. I have a huge mixed pen of bantams and standard sized and the Silkies definately hold their own just fine. I keep all my chickens penned up, but it's especially important with...

Ok, I would not like to communicate anymore about the confusion of the ealier thread conversation. Sounds like you need to pick up a copy of Storeys Guide to Raising Chickens, or some other "how to" book. And/or start Googling "chicken care." There is NO WAY that anyone can tell you everything...

4wk Old White Silkies - NEW TO THE SILKIE WORLD

These are the ways my silkies are different from my other chickens. They don't roost up on a roost but I have 2 by 4 pieces in their pen that they sit on. They cuddle together to sleep. I trim their feathers around their eyes so they can see better. Be careful not to trim too close. They...
