I need any info on feeding them back the dried egg shells i can get. Is is good for them? How do I prepare them? Do they still need oyster shell? Bad? Good?
Mine love most things....oatmeal, pasta, mac and cheese, lettuce, tomatoes most fresh veggies...not crazy about large pieces of carrots, shredded are okay, they get bored with too much bread.
6 months ago we got our first chickens. 6 of them and we love the eggs. We have a friend that keeps trying to get us to get a rooster and I really dont know if i want one at this point or not. What are the benefits of having a rooster. We are interested in the egg laying aspect of this whole thing.
Thanks for all of your opinions and advice on this subject. I value all of your input. I have chosen to feed my girls the leftover quiche squares and they devoured it!!!! Wow!! As far as the shells go, how do you dry the shells, etc. and prepare them for the chickens?
I have a huge pan of leftover zucchini veggie quiche squares that i was going to toss and then i thought about the girls but i was not sure, being new to this, if cooked eggs like that is a good idea or harmful or what....they are chickens that lay EGGS after all. Is it weird? okay? please give...
Here in Kelso we have at least 1 to 2 inches of snow and it is coming down hard. It is really windy too. The girls do not seem to mind the snow but dont like the wind much. They have a nice cozy coop to hide out in though. I am having a hard time keeping the waterer thawed out however. Enjoy the...
We have had our 6 chickens since july and they started laying about august and have been doing just fine so far, but i know there is a lot we do not know. We feed them laying pellets daily, give them fresh veg/fruit etc daily, scratch and or corn daily, fresh water daily and make sure they have...
I live in Kelso, right next to Longview, about 50 miles north of Portland, Oregon and about 100 miles(I think?) south of Seattle.
This is my first fall with my chickens and I am finding that I will be fighting the muc this winter and will need to make some drainage improvements. Yuk!
We have terrible drainage and clay soil and even though we put the run and coop where we thought it may be the driest it is still a muddy gooey mess in the run. Does the mud pose any harm to the chickens? Can we add buckets of sand to help with the mess? Will sand hurt them? Any other ideas...
I know my chickens love shelled peas but can they have the actual pea plant with some blossoms still on them too? My plants are just about done but still are tall and green and I thought it would be a great treat but i did not know if they were safe for them to eat. Besides raw potatoes, that i...
Thanks so much for all of your feedback on the price of eggs in your area. Store eggs go for more than $2 a dozen here so I don't think I will have any problem getting $3 a dozen for them. I have several people at work just waiting for me to start selling them. Thank again everyone!!
I am new to this and I am just starting to get more eggs than i can use. Can some of you give me an idea of how much a dozen you get for your eggs and where you are located. Thanks!
We just got our 6 laying chickens a few weeks ago and half of them are laying pretty regular now. It is egg-citing!! We are brand new to this. I read about mites recently and it sounded pretty gross. Is it a big problem with keeping chickens or is there some preventative thing i need to do? I...
We just got our second egg and it was cracked and had leaked. Is this something that normally happens occasionally? We are so bummed because we need that second egg so my hubby and I can each have one. lol
