So one has more silvery down on its back with a pretty defined head spot and the other is definitely darker all around with more of a smudge on its head. Thoughts?
A week later, one has a bit more white in the feathers, but I'm thinking (hoping) both females. What's your vote?
These little guys are just over 10 weeks old. They seemed to develop red combs and wattles early on so I'm thinking roos, but I'm looking for input from those who have experience with the breed? What do you all think?

So I decided at kind of the last minute that I would try my hand at raising a few meat birds this year. So in about a week I will be receiving 15 red broilers from Murray McMurray. I know the outdoor setup doesn't need to be elaborate.... I am most concerned with how to keep them safe at...
I've read that these crosses will produce sex linked offspring.... but I wondered if the fact that my roo is splash would make a difference. What would these chicks look like?
So my eggs have all pipped and I"ve been waiting and waiting and waiting..... of course as soon as I leave for 30 minutes, the first one hatches! Total cutie EE but just looked so cramped in there. I quickly lifted part of the lid and pulled the shell out. I do not have a hygrometer, so I...
I'm brand new at this, but it 's not looking good in the incubator right now. The first egg I candled tonight was so exciting! The little bugger was moving all around in there. The rest had big dark shadows and no movement at all that I could see. Late death? Should I remove them and see if...
I have two small flocks I'm working towards merging together. The older flock has 6 hens, not quite laying age (about 19 weeks right now) and one very sweet rooster, a blrw. The younger flock has one blue cochin rooster (about 10 weeks old and definitely the boss) and 4 hens, about 12-14 weeks...
Just a little confused about the different uses. I'm reading lots of 1/8 tsp (unactivated) per gallon for drinking water.... Should I use that same ratio to mist them, or make it a little stronger? And if I want to clean the coop, what is a good ratio to use for that purpose? Thanks. The...
I opted to close my flock after a few came down with respiratory symptoms. I realize that they could be carriers for life if it is an actual disease and not just being sick from moldy food or some other cause... but all the unknowns made it impossible for me to cull. Anyway, I've isolated and...
I have sick chickens and want to know what they have. Fortunately/unfortunately it wasn't so bad that any of them have died.... so if I want a diagnosis, I need to cull the weakest of the bunch and send her in. My question is will I get accurate results if she's been treated with antibiotics...
So I've been nursing some sick pullets for a little over a week now. Coughing, wheezing, rattling in the lungs, watery eyes..... Was thinking maybe I was dealing with infectious bronchitis or mycoplasma of some sort. Another thought just occurred to me though. The chickens that are sick were...
I have two chicks who are battling a respiratory infection think. I have separated them from the other chicks and just started them on Duramycin 10. Questions:
One is cochin cockerel 7 weeks and the pullet is a dorking, 9 weeks (a future egg layer)... will her eggs be safe?
As for the rest...
Just wondering.... if I have a blue cochin rooster and a buff cochin hen, what colors would I likely see in their chicks?
How about BLRW rooster and a golden laced wyandotte hen?
I suppose I'll find out anyway, but I was just curious. :hu
About 5 weeks old.... Excuse the chicken wire. I didn't want to disturb them. And just because it's so stinking cute, here is a picture taken only 3 weeks ago. Huge changes taking place. So..... Rooster???
Have been watching these 3 "girls" and am beginning to wonder? They're all just about 12 weeks old at this point, I believe. Please help! Here is my blue laced red: My gold and silver laced:
Took above photo two weeks ago of what I was told was a splash Orpington pullet. She was not 100% on the sexing at the time but seemed sure of the breed. Feathers came in and still no color, except one little spot on the tip of one feather.... So does that make her splash, or do I have a white...
Well, I went to a swap today to "look" and came home with four new chicks (easter egger, cochin, silver dorking, and cuckoo marans). They are so cute and sleeping soundly in their brooder box right now. Am looking for any advice on how/when to introduce them to my other birds who are between...
Not sure of her exact age... 8-9 weeks I'd say. She's been much more feisty with the other chicks for the last week and overnight turned up with all this red! Brand new at this and not ready for a rooster yet. Am I just paranoid?!?
