Please share your pop door photos!

Hi Skylavaulter, this is my simple pop door. I purchased the metal pieces from Lowe's. They are called The Hillman Group 4-ft x 1-1/4-in Plated Steel Slotted Angle. Attach one side to the 2x4 and the other side acts like the track for the cutting board. I drilled a hole in the top for the...

    Saddle injury

Thanks JanetMarie and TNchickies. I went and purchased a few saddle aprons and some more medicated spray first thing this morning. I also purchased the blue kote, but haven't used it yet. The run and coop are really secure, so if she was attacked ( I believe it happened between 11 am and 1pm...

    Saddle injury

This is what she looked like yesterday afternoon. This morning, no new blood. I sprayed her with the vetericyn again. I know the blood in the photos is from the others pecking, but what do you think caused the original injury? The other hens or a predator? Thanks again :)

    Saddle injury

Hi TNchickies. When I noticed the injury on Tuesday afternoon, they had been out free ranging for two hours. I first thought one of the red tail Hawks had tried to grab her. They reside in the woods behind the yard, and have not bothered our chickens before. I immediately put the chickens back...

    Saddle injury

Hi Eggcessive, and thank you for your reply. My covered run is 10 ft by 20 ft. I live on Long Island, and we had a bad winter. Snow is finally gone. I have been letting them free range, but only when I am home. My work schedule rotates, so they have only recently been going out into the yard. So...

    Saddle injury

Hi everyone. I apologize if I posted this a few times. My phone keeps clearing everything when I try and submit. One of my 10 hens has blood and plucked feathers by her tail/saddle region. I have no roosters, and checked everyone for mites ( nothing on any of them ). She is one of 9 brown egg...

    EE pullets or roos, please

Thank you! Although I wouldn't mind if the white with black/grey head was a roo, I am very happy that you agree with pullets :)

    EE pullets or roos, please

Hi Everyone, I was looking for some help with deciding pullets or roos? They were sold to me as Ameraucanas, but I think they are Easter Eggers. They are 8 weeks old Wed/Thurs. The more I look at them, the more confused I get :) Any insight will be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you! chick...

    when can chicks live outside?

I live on Long Island. I put my four baby chicks out when they were one and a half weeks old. It was the day after Father's Day. I made an extension on my existing chicken run, so the new chicks would grow up next to the older girls ( 1 and 2 yr old chickens ). I purchased a dog house and...

Coop Delivery Nightmare on Long Island!

Hi Dave, There is an awesome place on Middle Country Rd in Ridge called Kaufold's Country Sheds. 631-924-1265. I went there a few weeks ago after Riverhead Agway ( too expensive and their delivery is a 15 foot box truck. No way to get that where I wanted it in the backyard ). Kaufolds had...

*** Update** -- black australorp egg bound? can't figure it out

Hi, good morning, and thanks for the reply. I realize how frustrating the symptoms are. I just checked on her again. Her tail is up, but she is still laying down, and still clucking and cooing away. Hahaha. Great way to confuse the heck out of me! Thanks for the suggestion of wormers...

*** Update** -- black australorp egg bound? can't figure it out

Update --- Just wanted to let people know. After 4 days in the house, eating sparingly, my boyfriend suggested giving her freeze dried worms. My chicken had been moving around a lot more, sleeping less, and seemed very content inside. So, after gobbling up the worms, I decided to put her...

    confused about barred rock gender

@ Fried Green Eggs --- that is hysterical!!! When I went in the run last night to give fresh water, the darker kept eyeing me up! She (yay!!!) ran right up to me, and looked like she wanted to jump up on me. It's so awesome that they all have individual personalities. I love to just sit...

    confused about barred rock gender

Thanks Fried Green Eggs!! I looked at the link: Very white compared to very dark. I was worried that, as they got older, mine would keep getting lighter in color. Or maybe it's just my eyes & mind playing tricks on me!! I think the combs are still small, so that is encouraging also. They...

    confused about barred rock gender

Hi everyone! I am kind of new to chickens. I have read everything I can, and am still confused about two of my six chicks. I don't want to annoy my neighbors, so I would have to give my roosters away. I purchased them at a few days old. So they are somewhere between 10 and 11 weeks now. I...
