    How to deal with Cocci

Thank you. I should have mentioned the new chickens I am adding are ones that I raised from chicks in the grow out pen. But when I add them to the coop and run where my existing chickens are I always end up losing one or two. I clean the coop and run often. It does get wet in there when it rains...

    How to deal with Cocci

a few years ago I was losing chickens one right after another. I sent a dead bird in to be tested and he had cocci. I treated the birds and cleaned the run and coop. But it seems every season when I add new birds I always end up losing one or two. Should I treat them with meds before adding them...

I'm about 30 minutes outside of Pittsburgh. Last year I had a Silkie in with a Cochin rooster. The kids couldn't believe a chick hatched out of such a small egg. Unfortunately we had a fox attack and I lost all my bantams. I'm starting over with chicks this spring but they won't be laying in...

Hello everyone!! It's that time of year again. I donate eggs to my friends classroom for her students to hatch. When we started we just had white eggs but over the years we started doing different colors and some of the more interesting looking breeds. I have blue, green, light brown and white...

I tried google but I became overwhelmed with info! Today when I went to gather eggs in my big coop I noticed one of the girls pooped in the nesting area. The poop looked "ground" up and then I saw something move. A teeny tiny worm that was a white color. My questions are: 1. What kind of worm...

I've never used medicated feed for my chicks but after dealing with cocci I'm thinking I should use it since I have a broody hen in the coop. I cleaned everything out and treated with antibiotics but won't the virus still be in the dirt somewhere? I'm new to this so any advice is welcome!

Cocci went through flock and killed most of my chicks.

I never dealt with this before. My chickens seemed fine. I had a broody and she hatched 6 chicks. One died right away. The next day another one was dead. At first I thought they were weak and sickly and didn't worry too much. Then a few days later another, and another. I sent one away to be...

My husband did the same thing but used the roof of our pool house to hold the hose. He will be devastated to know he isn't the first to come up with the idea! Lol

I didn't notice any symptoms prior to their death but I do not want to lose anymore. This is my first time treating them for anything.

Update on my dead bird that I sent to be tested. It was cocci killing off all the young chicks. I'm treating them now. It also stated some lice present. I feel like the worst chicken owner ever! I'm going to buy some DE for them to dust bathe in and give the coops a very thorough cleaning this...

No. Nothing seemed wrong at all. Eating, drinking and then I would find them the next day dead. I emailed the pa dept of agriculture. They calked and asked me to send the bird overnight with ice packs. Shipping would have been $40 and a $40 fee for testing. I'm 4 hrs away so driving isn't an...

I'm worried sick. For the past month I've been losing baby chicks every week. At first I thought there was something wrong with the chicks that hatched, it was a first time broody and she wasn't always on the nest. They hatched almost 4 days late. Then more starting dying. I would find one or...

Broody hen attacking her own chicks..'why?

Once again I need advice. I had 2 broody silkies. They shared 9 eggs. When they hatched all seemed fine. A week later I noticed them picking on the 3 black chicks. Chasing them, picking them up from their wings to move them. I kept watching them and it didn't seem constant and they didn't seem...
