Does anyone feed chickens "the old fashioned" way?

I stumbled acroos this thread because was looking to see if anyone fed their chickens like I do. I have had chickens about a year. When we first got them (4, 2 buff orphs. and 2 RIRs), we fed layer feed, scratch, and they had access to some grass which they quickly ate. Then they became free...

Pasty butt in a year old chicken

I have a hen that has a similar issue, except there isn't any particular smell, and I don't thin I've seen any funny lokking chicken poo, but then again I don't exactly go looking for chicken poo. I will definatly be more on the look out, because today I noticed this(WARNING: IT"S GROSS): SHe...

    Chicks in the Rain

Hi, I used a broodie Buff orph. to hatch some chicks, and today was their first outing ever. I'm letting nature take care of itself for the most part. I let her sit on them in the coop, she made a nest at ground level, and I 3 out of 6 eggs hatched. They stayed inside yesterday and the day...

May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

haha, I don't know what kinda luck I'll have, but I think Ethel is doing remarkably well for a first time mama. Her "sister" Lucy is so mad at me right now, 'cause she wanted some eggs to. Y'all should see the evil eye i'm getting right now.

Actually, thats really relieving, as they all have a white dot on their heads, and I was worried I wouldn't get any hens from it. so now I'm relieved, even though it's till a gamble. Thanks!

YAY! I'm even more excited now! I have a question though. I know that BSL come from a RIR rooster and a barred rock type hen. These eggs come from a Domonique rooster, and RIR hens. Are they still BSL, or are they just a mix?

Momma is awful proud of herself, but not willing to leave the other 4 eggs. Any chance they'll still hatch?

    Starr Family Chickens

Describe 'Starr Family Chickens' here: Well, we began with a flock of 4, and now have a flock of 3 with 1 sitting on 6 eggs . So, here goes. Lucy: Lucy came from nighbors who had 20 chickens. She is a Buff orphington, who is about 1 and 1/2 years old. She is my favorite, because the very first...
