Just looking for advise here. First time with a broody hen. She was doing very well until she started to eat the chicks in the eggs right before hatching? Does this happen from time to time?
I will never let a broody sit without the bator running just in case.
Any thoughts?
We put ours in a couple of years ago. One of the first big projects after buying the farmsite. No more running garden house or hauling water. Life saver, def worth the cost of install:)
I keep mine by the back door in the basement. Easy to grab a scoop when I'm going out to the chickens. Mine werent very excitied about the pumkin I threw in the coop. then I found some pumkin shells and they would all get in line if I was willing to stand there and cracked the shell open for...

I saw it when we were trying to figure out how to process. Most articles and the UTube video we watched said the hot soapy water would remove the feathers better?? It really helped clean up the chicken and remove the feathers.
I really tried to use everypart of the chicken and tried...

Thank you!! We are located in Minnesota and it was maybe high 40's here yesterday when we butchered. I was just concerned about bacteria, or getting sick...I know, DH rolled his eyes at me too. I had read so many times that the internal temp should be 40 within an hour and...
I have a butchering question....I'm sure there is a different thread for this, but was hoping someone could help here. Someone on this thread posted an excellent tutorial that we followed.
We only had 5 to do but my husband and I had never done this before so, I have two...
I"m ordered cornish X from McMurray this year. They will be 4 weeks old tomorrow. This is our first experience with raising this type of chicken. I do have them on fermented feed at noc and they have access to unlimited dry chick starter crumbles all day. I'm thinking they need a higher level...
I'm planning on doing the whie wash this spring, just preventive. Knock on wood, I don't have any problems yet. Do u guys start over with new DL in the fall, moving your DL to the garden every spring. Just wondering cuz my DL is deep.deep deep. A mixture of leaves, wood shavings, hay and...
If u remember, let me know when u start your chicks on FF if u have this problem. These guys are almost three weeks old and they look terrible. My adult hens, on the other hand are very shinny and fluffy.
FF question, My chicks just aren't all fluffy with FF. they look kind of dirty with all that FF all over them. I raised up the feeder but that didn't seem to help. Anyone else notice this? Does it have any effect on there feathers?
I have a NN pullet that recently started to lay, first no shell for two days, followed by a very large egg. For the last two weeks she has laid a giant double Yorker every other day.......I'm thinking this is all her system getting going and more regular. This shouldn't be a problem, I...
My 4hens have what I think is vent gleet. Do I use nu-stock on that? I wish I would have taken better notes from this thread. It's barely above freezing out, I don't think I can bring them in to bathe them.
The pictures of those different new barns, really has me wishing and drooling. Both look very very nice.
Very sorry to hear of a mom with cancer....have nonhodgkins myself. I agree with the advise you were given, do what you canto make your best decision today and don't second guess...
I have 15 baby chicks in the basement and I started them in FF on day three. It took them a bit at first to get them started on it but now they gobble it up. Glad I started FF. I had been reading up on it for awhile but just hadn't taken the plunge and started it. This might be off topic...
