I have a barred rock who would attack my granddaughter and I especially if we wore the colour red! Well I put a stop to that by catching him and just carrying him around for 20 mins or so...whilst talking to him about who the real boss of the coop! ( had anyone heard me do this I would have been...
they made them single layer 1/4 inch ply with no frame on it! I think I will find some pallets and attach them to the plywood to strengthen them. then put the hinges back on and hang them.
Update on the hoophouse coop...
Well its going up with pics to follow..I ordered a large tarp which turned out to be very economical! so the end product will be a 18x36 foot coop.
The 30 birds dude was selling I didn't buy ... he couldn't answer basic questions like what breed and such and he...
well imagine my surprise this morning when my 19 day old eggs in the incubator were peeping and pipping out! an hour later and 1 chick fully hatched and 7 more pipping!!! what fun this is to see (its my first time with incubating eggs) just so surprised they are hatching so early?!
Any one else...
go for it! you have a vision and with some planning regarding the windows doors and vents you will be able to make a gorgeous coop! anything can be done with a little thought and planning!
take lots of pics and post them I would love to see what you come up with!
amount of light and feed always matter the most...other than the age of the hen! In the winter time up the light with a light bulb in the coop! Always give them their layer mash and scratch I supplement heavily with oyster shell and scraps from the kitchen!
If the young rooster just gets out of the way of the dominant rooster I really wouldn't bother with doing anything about it! Seems to me the situation is under control. No one is getting hurt and there really shouldn't be any stress under those conditions.
Oh and I do have those hangable waterers but they seem to go dry all the time even though there is alot of water still in the reservoir! ( and yes I do have the thing twisted on the right way!) so I have given up on these expensive and useless things!!!
I have just spent several hours along with my son daughter-in-law and hubby cleaning out the coop right down to the boards because of the ducks dumping the water bowls constantly...needless to say all was soaked! so I got to thinking about a way to resolve this issue. I thought that if I hung a...

I just took a quick peek out the window and saw my indian runners eating ice chunks that I just busted out of their bowls when I gave them their fresh water a half hour ago! Crazy birds no wonder they are shivering out there!
I have 25 of these girls and they are great layers! but as far a temperment its split on friendliness some are down right miserable others are not too bad. they are quite flighty and do not like to be picked up for petting, and a few of the more miserable girls will attempt to peck at you when I...
UGH! me too...my poor rooster (he's a barred rock with big waddles and comb) has frostbite on all the tips of his comb and a spot of it on one of his waddles!! geez he's gonna hate me more when I catch him to put vaseline on him!
I'm in southern Ontario (Canada) and we have freezing temps most of the winter season here as well. I take my watering can out in the morning and then in the afternoon/evening to give my girls their water and they seem to be doing just fine with that! they manage to peck at the thinner ice to...
