Our run has a roof and three covered sides so snow isn't a problem, but it's icy on the way to the coop n run, I use pet friendly salt everywhere else, my concern is I may track it into the run. We live in central Massachusetts so lots of snow & ice, this is my first winter as a chicken...
My girls will be 16weeks next week, one Australorp & two hambergs. When should I start them on laying feed? They are still on chick crumbles, a little off topic but when do I put the nesting box into the coop?thanks!
Thank you all for responding, they have rose combs, slate gray legs..........AND have developed a bad habit of sleeping on the roof of the coop, I have placed empty plastic plant pots on the roof, they just keep flying into them until they knock them off, I tried moving them when they were...
Hi all, newbie here, I have three pullets ten weeks old,I have them trained ( at least in the run) to come to me When I call & shake the treat container. We have an acre of fenced in yard, they seem anxious the get out of the run whenever I bring them their afternoon treat, usually frozen peas...
So I took the plunge and bought threes pullets (4 weeks old ) from a coworker who ordered 100, they are as fun and fascinating Ias I had hoped. She has chickens to sell the eggs at a local framers market to supplement she income, I think of them more as pets. So she ordered " brown egg layers"...
