I love Silkies! We have one that looks just like this one. She is the best surrogate mama there is. She continues to mother them even when they are adults.
I am sad to say that I am not very good at sexing my chickens. Our "hen" is a rooster. He is gorgeous, but I am positive that he will not be giving us any eggs. :( He didn't crow for 6 months, and there is no wattle or spurs. I am hoping that he continues to get along with his daddy or we...
I increased the protein for my hen too. Before long she was back to normal and fully feathered. Her new feathers are a really dark, beautiful color. You can pick her out from the other Buffs. None of my other hens have ever had that problem, and I am hoping that don't in the future. That...
Excellent. I love the blue and green eggs! Thank you for the information. She should be laying by the end of December, so I will know without a doubt soon. "'>
That's an excellent question and I would be curious to know the answer as well. Our Pullet is a cross between a barred rock rooster and an Amaracauna hen. She looks just like her daddy in color, but the comb and legs are mama. Is there a dominant egg color as well?
I only have pictures on my phone and I don't know how to transfer them to the computer. Yukon has moved to a new home now where he is in charge of 12 lovely ladies so I can't take any new ones. I will have to get a picture of his brother Levi and post that one instead.
Well, I am happy to say that my Buff hatched her eggs, and grew back her feathers. We kept her separated from the other ladies and she ate canned cat food, yogurt and we fed her the medicated chick feed. After the eggs hatched, we kept her on the medicated chick feed and she looks absolutely...
My barred rock(rooster) and silver laced Wyandotte(hen) mixed rooster looks very similar to your roosters (barred and buff) only much, much taller. He is a mammoth!
She does puff her feathers, but she has always tended to be broody in the fall. We gave her a couple of eggs to lay on, but she is a mess. She is missing a lot of feathers, and she is very thin. Her last molt was not like this one. I have never seen a chicken walk backwards and sideways like...
My hen is doing the same thing. She won't leave the nesting box and when I get her out for some food she eats like she is starving. I offer her water but she doesn't drink and her droppings look like,,,,a huge pile of green bile with what should be an egg in it. Nasty stuff. She looks like...
