I've got 10 acres, zoned commercial/agricultural 24 chickens, may be getting 4 goats this fall that need a new home. Then may look into cow and hogs. Farm living is the life for me................ lol
Welcome, I'm in Litchfield but wondering how in N Olmsted you are able to have chickens? But I guess it's not all close encountered lands. Good for you.
Just got 2 Tretratints from my TSC today they say it's their "featured" breed. Not sure about them either but I like to try different breeds to see what will work for our Ohio conditions. Also thanks Kavaji for the info.
It may take a day or two for it to get it's balance. Just make sure it know's where the water and food are. Sometimes I will sit with them for a little bit helping them to stay on their feet to teach them how to stand. I've also had to replace the bandaid too sometimes.
LambingFamily - Yeah if it's only the one leg that is why I did the bandaid and tape on the foot. This helps to stablize the chick so he/she will learn to balance. It will take it a little bit to get used to it but should do fine.
Good Luck.
LambingFamily,
See if this is what the chick looks like. http://www.poultryhelp.com/spraddle.html -
if chick does not look like this it will help on the rest of my explaination.
If not I don't have pics but think this might help -

Ok, I had success with my last hatch.
First you need - Clear packing tape mine was "Crystal Clear" brand seems to be a bit thicker than other box tape, and a band-aid.
First - take a square of packing tape a little bigger than his/her foot in the standing position. Place foot on sticky side of...
Ya probly won't like this, but it still may be a little early to tell. The sorta look like they may be hen's, you'll have to keep an eye on how the combs are developing.
Did you specifically have hens ordered or did you buy from someone local? Did they tell you they were hen's?
It's just...
mmajw - 2 things,
first - I look at it this way not so much as cranky look but more of a cocky proud look.
Second - what kind of chicken is that black one, Blackie in your pic? I have one exactly like it and don't know what it is, other than a hen... I call mine Black Mama.
thnks,
 I want to enter too..... Here is a pic from last summer when "Big Boy" was about a yr old - so now he would be 2 yrs old....
Ok and this is Big Boy as of yesterday.
gla, speedi3

I'll be getting the HUGE Plastic box out. bout 2 x 3 x 3' high we made a screen top for it and they have loads of room to run around.
May try the liner thing next hatch...
Marli, I don't know about the cold water thing, but when my girls do that to me I just chuck them and try to block off the spot they are hiding the eggs. Then just keep collecting the fresh ones.
No there is no direct light source, it's just the flopping around they do trying to get stablized. I have a little giant dry air incubator so hatching chicks and eggs are all in one unit. I've moved the other three into a separate brooder after the sac is disconnected and they seem to be doing...
